Alrighty...

Anyone know where I can get an internal snap ring with an outside diameter of about 40mm? I only need 2 or so.

That's a bit bigger than most hardware stores carry, that's around 1 5/8ths" or so. McMaster-Carr is one place to start and if not that Timken bearings maybe able to help. I hope you have good snapring pliers. Cheapies start folding when you get to this size and larger.
