Ouch!

The right side main landing gear didn't fully deploy, and that's what caused the crash. Looks like it could be repaired.

That's nothing. TamJets had their test pilot flying at the local airfield's annual airshow a few years ago. He was flying a 1/8th scale F16 with full flying elevons (the entire tail surfaces move and they are used as ailerons and elevators) . He was doing some high speed aerobatics and snapped one elevon clean off the airframe. It flew about 1/4 mile away and had to be taken away in a trash bag.

When I raced 1/10th scale warbirds I had a P51 with a YS110 that would do about 150mph. It augered in when an aileron failed 20' off the deck. Again, everything fit into a garbage bag.

That's repairable.

This on the other hand...

It's test flight:

And ultimate fate:

Yea, that left a mark.

Shades of the 1994 Fairchild AFB crash...Both were beautiful airplanes.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Apparently, the R/C model crashed for the same reason...basically got into a stall in a turn and sliced down with not enough altitude to recover.

This was about 7 grand 10 years ago and it is a small one....10+ is not that unusual.

GREAT sound in flight:

What a real shame. That's why I'd end up maybe flying it once then just admiring it. No, I think I'd just taxi it. No, there might be a turbine fire. No... I'd just build a large non-flying scale model...

A recent RC B-29 crash and crowd near miss:
