Last June at ROC I launched my first Batray. Unfortunately it did a cork screw and took a nose dive, because it was unstable and caused enough damage to make it non-repairable. So I hacked it up and saved the AP retainer and used it on this build. I wanted to do something different and since Halloween is around corner I thought this would fit the bill.
I added 1.75 ounces of BB’s and epoxy to the nose after drilling the hole a little deeper. I capped it with a wood dowel to allow the eye screw something stable to anchor to. I went ahead and cut some LOC 29mm tubing to 10” so just in case I want to fly a high power motor the 29/240 has no problem fitting in. As I mentioned I’m using an AP motor retainer for positive retention. I used some 30 BSI epoxy for the fin fillets and filled them with spot glazing putty and sanded smooth.
Recovery harness is a combination of 48” of #750 Kevlar fastened to a 350lb swivel and on the other end ¼ nylon elastic. I’m using a 9x9 Topflight Nomex blanket with a 22” TARC Fruity Chute, which should bring the Batray down nice and easy without damage to the pointy fins. Hardware to attached the chute is a 600;b swivel and a 225lb quick link from Topflight.
I used a combination of Duplicolor paint and primer and Rustoleum Orange for that Halloween look to give it that Ghoulish look. Mark from Stickershock made the cool bats and lettering. Thanks Mark for the awesome decals!!!
