I have two CTI reloads that have the same propellant, but I've lost the old labels and so I'm not sure what that propellant is. One is a 3-grain 29mm and the other is a 2-grain 38mm. The grains are a brownish-red color. Are these Red Lightning maybe? I compared the look of the propellant to the other CTI types I have and it definitely isn't a match for White Thunder or Skidmark.

That leaves 5 others that are common among the 3gr-29mm and 2gr-38mm offerings:

Classic
Red Lightning
Blue Streak
Smoky Sam
Vmax

Is there anyone out there that can tell based on grain color?

Could very well be Red Lightning.

From what I have seen color wise

Classic - greyish silver
Red Lightning - light reddish to tan color
Blue Streak - blue, just like it's name sake
Smoky Sam - a medium shade of brown
Vmax - darkish red with HUGE cores

Hope this helps.

What size of the cores?
They might be classic or V-Max if they have larger cores (the hole in the center of the grains)

Load it up and let it fly

Oh, don't worry, I will. I was just hoping to avoid getting the stink-eye from our LCO when I leave the "Motor" section of the launch card blank.

"Normal" cores. These are not fast-burn motors for sure.

Definitely! Thanks!

So what happens if you put two different types of propellant in the same case?
One grain of White Lightning and one of Black Max for example.

If you use a Quick burning grain with a larger core for the bottom grain then slower burning grains for the rest of the motor you have what CTI calls a "Dual Thrust" Motor.
