Back in the day, Got the van loaded up for the intended destination. Stereo speakers in the back, the preamp for the tape deck is on and I'm about to hit the city limits. Pull out my favorite tape for road music and this was first on the list. Wanna hear yours. Got one?

Back in the early 70's, it was the same album as what you have there, but the song was Baba O'Riley. Several years later, it was Roy Buchanan off his Live Stock album, the song was I'm A Ram.

This one seems to be at the top of my list when traveling any distance.

A timely post with many heading to BALLS from all parts.
You have a good choice, one year we drove to BALLS and back with just one cd Robin's daughter had left in the truck. Katie Perry and Pink.
Never listen to Black Betty (Ram Jam of course) while driving in traffic.

Good choices so far. 2nd song song on my list was this. And I will admit (I air guitared this tune often) and I'm not even an air guitarist!

My road tape got edited over the years because I left out some genuine pearls. This being one of them.

This one always gets my blood pumping. It reminds me of when I first got my drivers license and I was racing around the So Cal desert in my '66 Mustang.

This one always works for me- in fact the whole album gets repeated at least twice-

Any Styx song works for me.

Launching rockets (or missiles in my case) is so easy a chimp could do it. Read a step, do a step, eat a banana.

The miles disappear at a unknown rate with these two albums. Look at the speedo....the needle is bouncing at around 110 MPH...good thing this is a rental car :D

...man...that's what? 5 times through that tape? Time for a new one...

...aaaahhhhh....

One song sure to get EVERYONE in my family singing in the car is "Too Much Time on my Hands" by Styx. Everyone, and I mean everyone, claps in certain spots. I've not done that doing 70 on the interstate, but wanted too!

Red Barchetta, live version from Exit...Stage Left. One of the best live albums of all time.

Avenged Sevenfold - Tension (specifically the bridge....great windows down song)

First one that I thought of. Need to put the car on cruise control before playing.:)

Yes, but head-bobbing and drum playing while driving can still result in catastrophic outcomes. :headbang:

My road mix usually starts out with "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" from 'Ole Lonesome' George Thorogood and The Destroyers followed up by "Bad to the Bone".

My ultimate "go out and get a speeding ticket" mix-CD was also the one I (unwisely) used on many road trips:

Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood
Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue
Runnin' Down a Dream - Tom Petty
Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer - George Thorogood
She's a Beauty - The Tubes
Ace of Spades - Motorhead
Dropped a Bomb on Me - The Gap Band (I needed a little bit of Funk in the mix)
Hot Rod Lincoln - Commander Cody
Screaming for Vengeance - Judas Priest
One Piece at a Time - Johnny Cash
Jukebox Hero - Foreigner

Dagnabbit! You beat me to the punch on those two!

(but you have great taste in tunes, though :) )

Today I am more likely to listen to an audiobook than music on a long trip. But back in the day, some of my faves were:

Rock and Roll -- Led Zeppelin
Run for the Hills -- Iron Maiden
You Keep Me Hangin' On -- Vanilla Fudge
Long Live Rock -- The Who
Headin' Out to the Highway -- Judas Priest
Spellbound -- Triumph
Nobody's Fault but Mine -- Led Zeppelin
Helter Skelter -- the Beatles
Fly by Night -- Rush

I've taken a few long drives to launches this year (from four hours to three days' worth to go to NARAM). The stuff that I most often pick from what's loaded in my iPhone includes the Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe album, three from Gaelic Storm, and sometimes a whole bunch of Cat Stevens.....

Some good suggestions above that I should add.

Queen's "Having a Good Time" has got to be my favoritest favorite. The other is "Hotel California" Also recently discovered the original "We Will Rock You" and love it way more than the one everyone knows.
