We host monthly fun shoots in the East Fork area above Azusa. Let me know if you are interested in attending. We start n00bs with .22s and by the end of the day they are usually blasting away with 12 gauge shotguns, AR-15s, the M1 Garand . . .

The M1 Garand is an awesome rifle to shoot... looks like a fun program to start shooting in.

Took the wifey to the range last weekend, she is wanting a pistol for concealed carry. She tried my XDs .45 ACP and did not care for the recoil at all, so that meant we were going 9mm. We tried out a few brands and models (Glock, Springfield, Ruger, S&W) and she narrowed the field to the M&P Shield 9mm. Now to get her into a course and start saving for the firearm. During this first range session with her I learned several things:
1. The woman is DEADLY with a handgun. (Check the orange target)
IMAG12042.jpg

2. She shoots almost as well or better than me. Here is my pink target:

3. I discovered that the 9mm is much easier to shoot than .45 ACP, it is fun to shoot, and much less expensive!

Looks like a good double stack 9mm is in my future. Also, anyone heard of the Lionheart LH9? It was a great little piece.

I've got 8 days left of waiting on the same piece. Can't wait. :)

Here are my Babies from Saturday. First time shooting. I set them up at 20 yards.

And a good daddy would get them what they want.

They are both good shots, the targets will look great in the family album. Or save them and show them to their first dates.

Few months ago I lost my brother to cancer. Among the things he left me was some guns . He had very nice collection of guns and ammo. These are the ones I picked out and my sister got the rest. What I picked out was Colt Government MKIV/ Series 70. A Colt 10mm Delta Elite. A ArmaLite AR 180 with folding stock. A ArmaLite 22 AR-7 Explorer. A Ruger 22 semi automatic. and a High Standard 22 Dura-Matic. And a High Standered Riot K 1200 pump shot gun.My brother was single with no children and I feel really blessed that he left us with so much. He was a Rocketer as well and I ended up with all his stuff. I really miss him. He was a real pain in the ass sometimes but we were very close and always hung out with each other. Rest in peace Gary.

I'de never heard of Lionheart til' this Thread, so I went and did some research and found a good Review that might be of interest:

https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/05/joe-grine/gun-review-lionheart-lh9-take-2/

Looks like it's a fine Pistol, but if it were me I'de go with the Smith simply due to Parts Availability and Commonality.
For me it is always important that in a Total End Of The World As We Know It, (TEOTWAWKI) Scenario, I'm able to get Parts for my Primary Firearms.

...or just plain able to get ammo for the primaries.

Tomorrow is our monthly shoot at Burro Canyon, in the San Gabriel Mountains above Azusa. On the way back I'll try to stop at the SCRA launch at Santa Fe Dam. The Yukon will be full of guns and ammunition; hope the park rangers don't have a problem with that.

Eric good to read from you here, you are enjoying life with the girlz, I fully understand. I just hope my German wife will also allow me sometimes to take the kids to the range. I can imagine how proud you were that saturday :)
Best regards from the south (of Germany)
Denis

Many fond memories are established with outings like this--used to take my son & daughter target and trap shooting at a range when we lived in California. They loved it!

my brother left behind a 9mm lugar, it was deadly acurate. SOB sent his wife last summer and took it back.
Now I have 3k rounds of ammo and no gun
I love th 9 Luger, not the new ones with no thumb trigger set.
But I'd never own a hand gun without a thumb trigger set.
Before I get 9mm, the BFG 35-70 5 round cylender dual action nickle plated is first, you know, to match the rifle.
Then, 2 of the uberti's matched set cody's in 44-40's and a Henry in 44-40.
Then a horse, etc etc etc. and I'll live like I was ment to.
I was born 100 years too late for they way I'd like to live.

Put a "silencer" on your gat and go "pew-pew-pew".

I prefer the name suppressor or muffler as either term is a more accurate description of what the device actually does.

BTW, illegal to own in the Socialist California. Evidently there is a great fear of poaching or assassination here. In Europe suppressors are considered the polite way to shoot.

Most shooting ranges run into trouble because of noise complaints. Legal suppressors would ameliorate such nuisance issues. Just saying.

It's even better when you put a suppressor on a select-fire weapon. Would that be "putting a muffler on your mower"? There used to be a local gun range that rented full auto weapons. $25 for as long as you wanted to shoot it, but you had to buy the ammo at their shop. They had an M-16, a Thompson 1928, an Uzi, and an H&K MP5SD (the last two with suppressors). They would leave a 5-day grin on your face.

That last one sounds familiar. :)

Here in Vermont we can have all the NFA stuff we want with the $200 Tax Stamp, but the State of Vt. won't let us have Suppressors.:(
We do already have a Poaching problem, but the kind of folks that are going to fill out the Papers and wait a few months, plus pay the $200 are not the kind of folks that want to go on a Poaching Rampage.
Legislation has supposedly been introduced recently to allow us to have Suppressors, but I have not heard any updates about its passing.
I will be asking about where it's at at the 2015 Gun Show in Barre in February.
I'de love to get a Can for my AR. As far as NFA Stuff goes, I'll likely never be able to afford a Machinegun, but Suppressors can be had for well under a thousand bucks, so that would be fun to have.

Both cheap fixes :) 10/.22 with a handcrank and machine a gun barrel to oil filter adapter. CHeap And Dirty. I know, both make the hair on the back of your neck stand up....

Well, I would dream about suppressors here in Germany...strictly impossible as normal sportshooter...But we still have other ways to enjoy shooting and get the 5-day grin... today I got that feeling again...I went to an incredible place in South-Germany called "Müller Schiess-Zentrum Ulm"... a Shooting temple, full indoor...we do not live in SoCal...independant from outside wheather, 25 up to 300 yards range INDOOR, video shooting theatre, Skeet and Ball-trap INDOOR (you can't believe that one...) ..with other word...5 hours of tense shooting...in a brand new infrastructure, beautfull lights & computer systems...pure high-tech for shooting pleasure... I LOVED IT... here a few pics:

I can just "Bump Fire" my AR if I want the Noise and waste of Ammo, and those hand crank things are lame.
I can/could even bumpfire my Glock 19.
On the other thing, the Oil Filter, that would be illegal. Saying something like that to someone like me is like me saying to you that I was going to put Explosives and Active Guidance into a Model Rocket.

Figured as much.
When and if Suppressors do become legal to own here in Vt., I will actually be starting out with the Serial Numbered Oil Filter Adapter, as it is the cheapest way to get into the Game, and you are not limited to using an Oil Filter. I can make my own Suppressor to "Adapt" to it out of Rocket Parts.
The Thread Adapter is the only serialized part you need to have on your Form 1. Oil Filters are much wider than Motor Casings, and get in the way of your Open Sights.

Don't give them any ideas. Before you know it, suppressors will be legally required.

Oh yeah, only took one pic at this month's fun shoot: GF assisting her son's GF with the former's Ruger 10/22:

It's the girl's first time shooting.
