Hoping to get my L2 there and I need a Prefect or someone to pass me off. I talked to Gerald and sadly, he wont be there. Is there anyone else that can help me get my L2?

Alex

Put me down as coming out, along with Jon Skuba, and probably what I have leftover in the Giant Leap motor inventory - changes happening there. And as the TRA Prefect for NCR, I can assist with L1 and L2 Certs for Tripoli fliers. Jon and I can also help with NAR certs.

Looks like I won't get my tower built for this launch, so I need a tower to fly my MD 54mm Blackhawk on. It's a three fin rocket about 6 ft. long. The tower needs to be at least 6 ft. long also, so I can fly a K160 long burn motor.
If you have something that I can use, please post up.

I got Joe's autograph on my L2 certification - looks like he's your man Alex.

So, Alex, are you confirmed as coming or no?

It looks like it unless something changes (if you keep your grades up - dad).
Joe, I'm glad you'll be out there. Missed you at Hellfire this year.

Im really looking forward to this launch.
I'm flying:
My L2 rocket - J425 Redline
A little flying case - I205W White, to about 10k and M2.3
What are you guys flying?

Alex

I've got a 'standard' Giant Leap launch tower that you are more than welcome to use. Guides are 4-feet long, and I will be launching my Madcow ToMach from it (~5 feet tall).

Which do you enjoy more, ROCtober or LV Oktoberfest?

Never been to a ROC launch, but I imagine they are very different events. ROC is one of the largest clubs in the world; TV is on the other end of the scale. What I love about Tripoli Vegas is that it is personal, the people are amazing, and the launching *fun*. Almost never a wait for a pad, and a massive dry lake bed to recover on. October weather is usually unbeatable--best launch all year long.

Perhaps the best answer is...BOTH. Go to both, and then you tell us.

Did anybody figure out what the deal is with that Chinese lantern event on the same weekend?

Thanks Mark, I do have a K454 Skidmark that will work on a shorter tower without busting the waiver. It's tricky to fly these skinny little rockets on big motors without dialing in the Cd. I only have one flight on this Blackhawk, and it overflew the sim by 800 ft.

We're working under a 14,800 ft. AGL waiver, right?

You got it. I am in the same boat with my Madcow ToMach. I've got a K375DT sitting in an ammo can just waiting to be used, but not for this waiver. I've picked a K805G for it's first flight, and should stay almost 1k-ish under the waiver (depending on what sim program and conditions are used). I also picked an L1390G for my Darkstar Extreme ("Jihad This"), so it's Mojave Green all around here.

There will be a raffle, exact details to be determined, and here are the prizes at this time (expecting/hoping for more):

Update 5 Oct:
Aerotech - Astrobee-D rocket kit (nice!)
Always Ready Rocketry - TBD
Balsa Machining (will attend) - two Aerotech I357T EZ reloads w/reload adapter ring & delay tool
Madcow Rocketry - one 2.6" Discovery kit w/chute protector, one 4" Squat w/chute & protector, and one 30" shock cord protector (wow!)
Missile Works - RRC2+ altimeter
OneBadHawk - two recovery harnesses
Spherachutes - one 18" chute, one 36" chute

Stickershock23 - two $40.00 gift certificates

Wildman Rocketry - $50 gift certificate

Thank You to all the vendors supporting the launch with raffle prizes!

I'm hoping for a photo opp. with our Extremes next to each other. Stickershock Mark will love it! I'm flying my "Red Tailed Extreme" on an AT M1780 Redline, the red tail is my theme.... Sims to just under 13k, so I should be good. It's another rocket that only has one flight on it, my L-3 cert. at Airfest. Fortunately, OR simmed the M1297 to 13,119 ft. and it flew to 13,134 ft. so I should be right on with this flight. So, you wanna drag race? I asked you earlier in this thread, but you might have missed it.
Sharon and I are gonna race our 3" Darkstars on L935's if they let us, hopefully early on Saturday.

I will be there along with Jay Dennis

Gonna miss the rest of the AZRT members that cant make it due to L.I.F.E.

and sometimes that "letting" is unavoidable - I just couldnt think of another word that worked

Looks like the RiSE Festival has the Playa and Oktoberfest will have to cancel or change dates.

WHAT?!?!?!

You have absolutely got to be kidding me.
I've been looking forward to this launch for months - one of the only times I'm able to fly at an event this year.

I've been trying REALLY hard to get this weekend off from work, and it's been very difficult - lots of back-and-forth and hassles along the way.
I finally got everything worked out, got lots of people's schedules changed around to accommodate, and managed to finally get the time off and confirm that I can attend - like TEN MINUTES AGO!! No lie.
I had literally just logged on to post a celebratory confirmation that I'm in, and saw this post.

I cannot be more bummed. This sucks HUGE.

grrrrrrr, s6

Curt/TRA Vegas folk - any chance the event could move to the Cedar City location?

s6

I knew this was coming. Bummer! Sorry to hear about your situation, stealth. That really sucks.

My O motor will be ready for the next launch at Jean, whenever that will be. Hopefully we can reschedule for the weekend after, or maybe the November launch?

Derek

This sucks! I was really excited to be there too! Just my luck...

S6, any chance you could make it to the UROC launch instead?

Alex

Well that sucks but I am not surprised. I was wondering how we were going to access the lakebed and get to the hotel for those staying at Gold Strike after reading this on their website....

""CAN I BE DROPPED OFF AT THE EVENT?

No, we will have the roads closed and the only RiSE Festival shuttles will be allowed access. You must arrive via a shuttle from the Gold Strike Casino, or The Rio Hotel and Casino,
that is located off the Las Vegas Strip.""

What? Please tell me this isn't true. A Lantern Festival has cancelled TLV Ofest launch?

It has not been officially cancelled by Tripoli Vegas yet but it does not look good. About 10,000 people are expected to attend the festival though.

Wha?? wait a minute..cancelled?? WTF? Oh nooo, Mr. Bill! Tell me this is NOT true? This would really foul up my schedule as I'm a manager and have to run it thru the ops group to get vacation time. Wow- can any body get me a replacement date like, this week?? I really can't see me mowing the dirt in my front yard wearing a rocket t-shirt for a 4 day weekend. Bummed doesn't even come close to describing the let down. Are we sure?

I was thinking about staying at Gold Strike instead of camping the whole time.... rates dirty cheap several months ago... then recently the weekend rates move to $110/night.... this explains that.

What is the waiver for the lanterns?

Unless the gang wants to have a guys weekend in Vegas, I ahould cancel my room.

I personally have been looking forward to this since Shredfest earlier thia year! Frak! Supposed to have a couple of L1000w and H550ST delivered to the lake bed too and buy some blue tube from Balsa Bill !

Rats ! PuckerNuts ! !

Why not still go and fly during the day and let the lanterns fly at night?

BTW, can this land be "reserved" like a picnic table at a park or does the larger group win?

Definitely a let down! Would be nice to know if it's canceled or postponed. I need to cancel/move vacation and motel reservations.
Will watch for further updates and plan from there. It's going to be tough to put it together on short notice.

Interesting that a bunch of lanterns have a better draw than rockets...
