I have spent the better part of today (which is a holiday) backing up and updating 3 web sites.

Close to 1GB of data download and about 36,000 files were backed up locally from the server. I also have nightly backups on the server, but this is an insurance against blue smoke at the hosting company.

Not an enjoyable experience!

The updating was easy, but backing up took all the time. Most of which was just monitoring my computer.

Any other horror stories out there?

Yes. Four hours backing up along with up grades, then, the power went out!!! I had no battery back up pack. Bought one the next day.

The backup of the web server hosting RocketReviews.com, PayloadBay.com, and other sites is about 500GB in size. I have an incremental backup running all the time. Once every three months, I do a complete backup.

A calendar, rather than a stopwatch, is the appropriate tool to time how long it takes to download the full backup. :)
