One of the biggest problems in using one of the single-board computers is size, not a problem on a balloon which is what this product was designed for. The Pi, the BeagleBone Black, and others are an order of magnitude larger than an Arduino based system requiring a large diameter rocket to fly them on. Additionally, an SBC is way overkill to just send GPS, video/stills, or other data to a transmitter. The one big advantage is that they can be easy to program and there are lots of ready to use plugins..
