Just saw a Mountain Dew commercial with what looks like a night time launch of a couple of dozen model rockets with sparky motors.

There was a rocket-eye-view camera shot.

Many different models, from the looks of it.
 
My middle son works in Hollyweird and believe me- your jaw would drop at the price tag of some of these commercials. What the Director wants often exceeds what Marketing expected, and that's how you get those contracts. The really sad part is most of those rockets prolly wound up in a landfill.
 
The sparks were coming from near the forward end of the rockets.
Must have been some kind of fireworks attached to them.

Yes. They had spark generators attached. You can see them in the "Behind the Scenes" video.

They weren't flying under our safety code, of course.

Me dog "Kodiac" can open a plastic bottle of Dew in seconds. gets it in the side of his jaw and it goes "pop" and then he spits the cap out..NO LIE!

Soda is likely no good for Dogs. Heck, it's not even good for People!
