Is there a wire stripper that does a great job of stripping shooter wire?

Greg

I use these. model T-6 # 45-121, around 12-13 bucks from Menards. I'm sure they are in many big box store or Amazon.

Make sure you look at them and the smallest[ or top] groove for stripping is labeled "26".

There are several models all look alike.

I have used them literally thousands of X's on E-match, Cat 5 E, & First Fire Jr. wire. Spray them every now and then with WD-40, or they will rust.

There are several sizes of shooter wire, so make sure of yours... they do make smaller gauge units.

I did a lot of research based upon comments/reviews from others before buying this brand and model in two different AWG ranges and am very satisfied. Very high quality and the grips are rubber(ish) and ergonomic:

I don't use them for shooters wire, but for many different gauges of solid and stranded wire with many different types of insulation including teflon. I got them cheaper as a paired set, but don't recall from where.

They are cheap and they work really well. I'm honestly surpised by how well they work give where they came from and how much they cost. you can strip both wires in one shot.

The ones I have strip 30 to 20 gage. The 30 is wire wrap wire that I use with Thermalite and extending Q2G2s.

the exact same with me I use my fingernails there with me everywhere I go.

Fingernails work for most wire.

Based on your suggestion and fdog's post about them (see link), I thought I would give it a try. I'm sure other wire strippers would work (and thanks for everyone's input), but I'm not sure if they would for shooter wire in particular.

I have a HF very close to where I live, so I went and purchased them today. If they don't work out, then I am not out a lot.

The HF wire strippers work!

They work well on some 24 gauge shooter wire (green insulation). It worked only so-so on yellow/red insulated shooter wire, which is more elastic than the harder green insulation.

I use a Knipex Multistrip. Works well for almost everything between 32 and 7 AWG.

Wow! Those lool really nice (and I'm surprised and how revved up I got looking at it). It almost needs a Mercedes Benz logo on it.

It's a bit pricey (near $100, as opposed to the cheap Chinese $5 at HF), but they look like that they would work extremely well.

Thanks for sharing that.

great! I use them on q2g2 wires and they have worked every time, but I could see how they might have issues with other wire. The little know on the back is supposed to adjust tension, but I don't think mine actually does anything.
