I attended my first launch since 2001 over the weekend with LUNAR at Moffett field. We had a pretty good day overall, but I had one motor that just would not light. I bought an AT SU E15-4W on Friday from the local dealer. I wanted to use it in my Estes D-Region Tomahawk. It should have taken it up to 950'. I tried the included Copperhead and it shorted out the leads and didn't light. Then I tried twice more with AT First Fire ignitors. Neither one would light it. I had the ignitors all the way up in the slot and lightly taped to the side of the nozzle.
After the launch Ari (iter) suggested that the motor might be old and to try using a metal rod to scuff the propellant surface up. I found a 4-40 rod in my scrap bin at home and threw it in my box to use as a file.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
