I fly electric RC airplanes and have several years experience with LiPo batteries. I'm not sure which 11.1 volt 3S you are considering. The 3S 11.1v 800 mah would be my choice. I'm looking at the StratoLogger for my first dual deployment system and according to the apogee components wsebsite, the input voltage ange is 4v to 16v. I also downloaded the spec sheet on the 9v Energizer battery and it's a 600 mah capacity. The 3S 800 Lipo will give more run time that a disposeable 9 volt battery, weighs less, and is rechargeable! BTW, a fully charged a 3S LiPo delivers 12.6 volts, still well within the input specs of the StratoLogger.

I also recommend a balancing charger for LiPo's. I checked the ones on the on the Overlander website and either the RC6-VSP or the RC-8S Pro would fit the bill without costing an arm and a leg. If you plan on charging at home off of AC, then I recommend the RC6-VSP. https://www.overlander.co.uk/batteries-chargers/battery-chargers.html

11.1V is overkill, get the smallest 2S, 7.4V (typically 8.4V charged) LiPo you can find, i.e., smallest mAh rating.

Keep in mind that when most altimeters fire an ematch, they use an unregulated connection to the battery. Lipo batteries have a very low internal resistance, so the higher voltage with the higher cell count will result in a lot of current through the altimeter, possibly damaging it. I don't know about the StratoLogger, but I use a single cell on my Ravens, Telemetrum, and Telemega. You might test the StratoLogger with a 1S battery first. At 4.2 V at full charge, charged before each flight, it should work.

2s or 3s is the option. 1000mah max I'm thinking.

2nd your choice.
The 180 mAh 2S lipos you linked work great on the Stratologer, Missleworks RRC3 and RRC2. A 3S or a 1000mAh lipo may let the smoke out of the altimeter.

Stratologger specs say do not exceed 10 amperes. Keep it below 10 amps and you probably won't let out the magic smoke.
It looks like the RRC2+ and RRC3 can handle 5 amps @ 9V.

Does the charger you list work for 2S batteries? Looks like there are three JST connectors on the side?

Wayco, yes the charger listed will charge a 2S lipo. The specs show it will charge a 1S-6S lipo battery at a current choice of .1-6A. There are 5 balance ports that support the JST balance connectors. One thing that will be needed that does not come with the chargers is a female battery JST connector that connects to the battery male JST plug and banana plugs for the + - leads to the charger. Here is an earlier post I did for questions about lipos and charges that might help.

The 180mAh 2s 25-40C Lipo has a maximum current discharge of 7.2 amps.

Turnigy nano-tech 300mah 2S 45~90C Lipo Pack (UK Warehouse) would be my pick for an all rounder battery.

You can fly all day on this one, all weekend actually. I use 900mah 2S lipos on my stratologger on L3 sized projects (I have room and weight to spare). Anything smaller uses a 200-500mah 2S lipo. You don't need more voltage, jtek e-matches will go off on a 1S 100mah lipo just fine, my wife flew her blackhawk 38 on a 1S 130mah hooked into the telemetrum just fine (other than going into a tree...)

Has anyone actually tested the stratologger on a 1s LiPo?

Had issues with them in the past. eBay to the rescue https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350652845156?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Matching charger as well https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Turnigy-...sGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item51b95e83cb

Re out of stock on LIPOs at Hobbyking. They have a USA warehouse that is often out of stock but the international store almost always has them. The price is usually slightly less but the shipping more.

Personally, I think you are just over complicating things with LiPo batteries for a Stratologger. A Durcell 9VDC battery works just fine. I put a fresh one in every season and have had no issues. If you want to use LiPo I'm sure that will work just fine. I'm just not going through the trouble of charging and maintaining batteries.
