I think I made a glider glide in OR :=) OR thinks it's an exception

I'm trying different panforms in OR to try to minimize CG shift during motor burn.

Apparently, I have a configuration that OR thinks is marginally stable on the way up, but as CG shifts back ever so slightly, simulation refuses to lose altitude.

It does lose altitude, but slowly enough that OR declares an exception. As far as I can tell from altitude fluctuations, this is a slightly unstable glide :=)

K-Tesh had an Awesome Phoenix that seemed to think it was a Glider. He had a Launch Video Thread recently that showcased it. It was the funnyist thing I'de seen in a long time.

Would love to see the video you mention.

I'm actually designing a glider. The surprise is that OR can simulate this flight regime :=)

I'm willing to bet that you just broke OR. It doesn't look like your sink rate is achievable. The oscillations do resemble the phugoid mode however...

Its just stuck in a thermal.:wink:

I was reffering to the other one where it launches from the RC Barge. To see the Phoenix Crash is sad.

That is actually more like the original flight profile of a Phoenix though: fly up and glide down to the target at high speed.
