    First off:
    Replying to a post:

You will see this in the bottom of each post. If you don't, then your permissions do not allow you to post.

Hitting Reply will bring you to a quick reply box. Type your message, and then hit "Post Quick Reply". This will allow you to post a basic message.

Hitting reply with quote will automatically quote that message, and open up in a quick reply box.

The third button is for a bulk quote. For example, say I want to reply to 5 posts, but I don't want to copy them all and quote them manually, then I click that button on each post I want to quote. Clicking the button will make it look like this:

You can click as many posts as you want. Then hit the big grey "Reply to Thread" button in the bottom left or top left corner of the page. This will quote all of the messages.

The final way to reply to a post is by hitting this button:

This will sometimes allow you to quick reply, and sometimes it will bring you to advanced. When you have typed your message, look at the following buttons:

you can hit Submit Reply, and it will post it.
Hitting Preview Post allows you to check if images were inserted correctly, or just to check if the post looks right.

Next, how to insert pictures from a URL.

    INSERTING PICTURES FROM A URL

HOW TO INSERT PICTURES FROM A URL:

OK, this is for photos that are on another site. NOTE: If you upload these from a Photobucket/Flickr/other photo hosting site, and you move the photo to a folder, or to another folder, the image will no longer show.

First, find your photo (I like photobucket), and copy the Direct URL:

Then come back to TRF, and when you reply to a post, you will see these buttons:

Hit the middle one. This will pop up:

    Paste in your URL:

    Hit OK, and voila!!!

    PRIVATE MESSAGING

    HOW TO PRIVATE MESSAGE (PM)

On any screen on rocketryforum.com, you will see these at the top:

    Click Private messages.
    (Names blurred for privacy).

Over on the side, you will see a button that says Send New Message. You know you want to. Click it.
    You will get this:

OK, now start typing in the box that says "Recipient Users". A list of matches will show as you type the username. You can send a PM to 5 people at a time.

    Title (this is self-explanatory)

    Then:

    Now, the fun part. Options.

Request a read receipt means you will receive a notification when the recipient reads the message.
Save a copy of this message means that you will have a copy of this message in your sent items box. This must be enabled here if you have not done so in your Settings. Note that messages stored in here count against your total PM limit of 75 messages.
Show your signature will determine whether or not your signature will show in the PM.
Automatically parse links in text will mean that typing a URL will automatically turn it into a hyperlink. Unclicking this option will make the recipient have to copy and paste the URL.
Automatically Convert Links to Videos will mean that pasting a Youtube URL or such will automatically make it a viewable video. AKA, this: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmHzBSV9i7M) will turn into this:

Finally, Disable smilies in text means exactly what it says. Typing : followed by ) will not automatically turn into .

So, now that you have everything done, hit either of these buttons:

Submit message will send the message.
Preview message will show a preview of what the message will look like.

So, you hit submit message. Your recipient will see the following:

And this, if they click on it:

Which clicking on that will bring you here:

Clicking on that will allow them to read the message.

    More later!

    How to flag/report a post:

OK, so a spammer gets through. Posts like this, you want to report.

    Name: Spam 1.jpg
Views: 719
Size: 63.8 KB

Bottom left corner of the post (true for any forum post), you will see this:

    Name: Spam 2.PNG
Views: 653
Size: 536 Bytes

Click it, type up a quick sentence or 2 on what it is that you are reporting (motor formula in open forum, spam, excessive swearing, rude posts, etc...).

Hit send report. The spammer (if they really are a spammer) will be banned as soon as a mod/admin sees it.

    How to insert photos:

Hit the 3rd button from the left (looks like a picture of a tree).

    Name: insert 1.PNG
Views: 599
Size: 2.5 KB

    Up will pop this box.

    Name: insert 2.PNG
Views: 715
Size: 8.3 KB

Hit choose file, and find your picture (note, 2MB (I think) upload size per photo. You can upload more than 1 photo at a time (up to 10)). Note that this step will vary depending on your computer.
    So, I see this one...

    Name: insert 3.PNG
Views: 630
Size: 2.4 KB

Then hit OK. This will show:

    Name: insert 4.PNG
Views: 660
Size: 8.6 KB

And then hit upload files. There you go!

How to insert an profile picture:
A profile photo will be seen on your account page, if you choose to have one. They are limited to 64kB or 100x100 pixels, whichever is smaller.

These are relatively simple if you know how to insert a photo in a post.

Top right corner of the page, hit Settings.
    Name: profile 1.PNG
Views: 608
Size: 2.4 KB

Left side of the page, you will see these options.
    Name: profile 2.PNG
Views: 598
Size: 6.1 KB

    Hit "Edit Profile Picture".

    You will see this.

    Name: profile 3.jpg
Views: 607
Size: 40.5 KB

Now, you have two options. Insert a URL into the Option 1 box, or hit "Choose File", click your file, and then hit OK. If you do Option 2, once you have chosen your file, "No File Chosen" will instead read the name of your file.

    Then hit the almighty button.

    Name: profile 4.PNG
Views: 600
Size: 1.3 KB

    Bingo!

What do all of the buttons mean?

There are lots of buttons. What do all of them mean?

First off, let's start with the ones in a subforum.

Standard thread with unread posts. You have not posted in this thread.

    Locked thread.

    Essentially:
If it is blue, it has unread posts.
If it is grey, then it does not.

If it is orange, it is a "hot" thread.
If it is any color but orange, it is not.

If it has a green arrow, you have posted in that thread.
If it does not have a green arrow, you have not posted in that thread.

If it has a Lock on it, you cannot post in that thread.

    Cool Thread!

Now, you need to do one for inserting photos from flickr (I already know how, but don't have the time to create my own instructions)

    Thanks

All you have to do is copy the image URL for the image, and then continue with the step of pasting the URL. Right click on the image, and click "copy image URL".

[EDIT] Due to changes in Flickr, this tutorial is obsolete.
An updated tutorial has been created to replace this one. It is available HERE. [/EDIT]

Problem is that flickr keeps changing its layout, so you have to hunt for the link that shows you the cut and paste URL.

So, this is the latest that I know of... First you find an image on flickr that you want to post here... Say, this one:

Find the box with the arrow coming out of it. Click it, and you should see an option that looks like this:

Click in the box with all the URL's and extra bits... and it highlights:

Right click in the box, and then click copy:

Come back to the forums, and paste it into your post... It should look like:

If you don't want all of the extra stuff about the title, and who took the image, highlight everything past the closing bracket on the URL part:

Then delete that chunk of text, you should get something like:

When you save your post, it will display your image (without all the extra junk):

BABAR asked me how to select multiple images to upload. Easiest way is click-shift-click. This is especially useful for any files that are stashed away in some obsscure folder. You can upload up to 10 files per post. Click on the first file, then hold the shift key and click on the last file.

If you want to bulk select a specific subset of files, click the first file, then hold down the control key as you click the other files that you want.

No problemo. I just got sick of answering the EXACT same question 40 trillion times a day.

Great tip. But I nearly fell off my chair laughing at the typo found between the two "clicks."
