Altus Metrum is pleased to announce our "Back on Black (Friday)" event!

For the first time since the Black Forest fire in June, we're re-opening our web store this weekend with a host of new and classic Altus Metrum products, including a special pre-order discount on our latest-and-greatest flight computer design, TeleMega.

This weekend only, Friday, 29 November 2013 through Monday, 2 December, 2013, the first 40 TeleMega direct orders placed through our web store will receive a special $50 pre-order discount (regular $400, now only $350!).

TeleMega is an advanced flight computer with 9-axis IMU, 6 pyro channels, uBlox Max 7Q GPS and 40mW telemetry system. We designed TeleMega to be the ideal flight computer for sustainers and other complex projects. TeleMega production is currently in process, and we expect to be ready to ship in mid-December. Pre-order now and we won't charge you until we ship. Learn more about TeleMega at:

https://altusmetrum.org/TeleMega/

We are also pleased to announce that TeleBT is back in stock. Priced at $150, TeleBT is our latest ground station that connects to your laptop over USB or your Android device over BlueTooth. Learn more aboutTeleBT at

https://altusmetrum.org/TeleBT/

Another new product we're thrilled to announce is EasyMini! Priced at only $80, EasyMini is a two-channel flight computer with built-in data logging and USB data download. Like our more advanced flight computers, EasyMini is loaded with sophisticated electronics and firmware, designed to be simple to use yet capable enough for high performance airframes. Perfect as a first flight computer, EasyMini is also great as a backup deployment controller in complex projects. Learn more about EasyMini at:

https://altusmetrum.org/EasyMini/

Also in stock for immediate shipment is MicroPeak, our 1.9 gram recording altimeter available for $50. The MicroPeak USB adapter, also $50, has been improved to make data downloading a snap. Read more about these at:

https://altusmetrum.org/MicroPeak

You can learn more about these and all our other Altus Metrum products at https://altusmetrum.org. The special discount on TeleMega pre-orders is available only on orders placed directly through Bdale's web store at https://shop.gag.com.

Thank you all for your support of Altus Metrum during 2013. It's been a rough year, but we're having a great time updating our existing products and designing new stuff! We look forward to returning products like TeleMetrum and TeleMini to the market shortly, and plan to introduce even more new products soon.

Great to hear that you are back.
Bought a TeleMega and a TeleBT. And I even did not have to stand up in the middle of the night, because I am in europe.

Our shipping computations are all messed up this evening due to a snafu with USPS. Don't worry, we really won't charge you $100 for shipping. We haven't changed our shipping policy, which for domestic stuff that fits in a USPS small flat-rate box is $8.

Ordered. :)

I have need of this, and have been waiting for its arrival for a while!

BTW, for those of you who've never used one, a TeleMetrum + TeleBT + Android tablet = Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread.

Thanks for the kind words!

By the way, to wrap up this thread, thank you to everyone who placed an order with us over the weekend. Approximately half of the initial production run of TeleMega boards is now spoken for, along with a fair number of TeleBT units. That's immensely encouraging to us! Look for further announcements about other new and familiar products soon...

It was all I could do to resist! Couldn't see myself getting to use this for at least a year but I still almost bit! ;)

Bdale, could you expand on how it detects the angles for two stage ignition control? And how are the limits set?

Thanks,

Jason

Bdale, could you expand on how it detects the angles for two stage ignition control? And how are the limits set?

The initial pad angle is measured with a 3-axis accelerometer; that way it can tell if you tilt the pad. After that, we use a 3-axis gyroscope to measure rotation in all three axis, and integrate those during the flight to determine the current orientation. You can see in this post I just wrote in another forum that the angle computed corresponds closely with the flight track angle from the GPS data:

https://https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?60760-What-did-you-get&p=636150#post636150

As far as setting the limits, we let you pick them yourself using a configuration method similar to that used in the Raven flight computers where you pick specific flight conditions that control when various pyro channels are fired.

Thanks for the info Keith.

So not quite as easy as a tilt-o-meter to set. :) Click in 20 degrees and let her go! Or can you set the number of degrees as the limit?

Jason

Keith would you mind if I camp out on your doorstep waiting?<LOL>

John,

Keith said he'd hand deliver mine to my house. Come over and we'll drink wine until he delivers them.:D

Yes, it's just as easy as a tilt-o-meter *plus* a raven -- you're programming a staging event, so you set the parameters for which stage you're firing a bit like you would on a raven, and then you just type in '20' and hit the 'angle from vertical less than' button and nothing will happen when the flight goes awry. And, no wiring adventures because the tilt function is all built-in to the altimeter.

Of course, I'm hoping we'll hear from flyers with ideas about how to improve the interface even more; we rarely get that kind of thing right on the first time around. Fortunately, it's all software, so updating things is pretty easy.

We can go visit Joe and see how his new rocket building palace is coming. He's got 'don't open until Christmas' signs up on the doors at this point.

My TeleMega arrived today! Once I get a chance, I'll download AltOS 1.3 and begin playing. :)

So with the combo listed above, the tablet is only acting as a receiver? Can i use a tablet without cell service and what would i be missing out on?

Yes, a tablet without networking is still useful and will show all of the live telemetry data except for the maps underneath the GPS information, so you won't know what terrain or roads lie between you and your rocket. You'll still have direction and distance information, of course.

Great. Thanks Keith. I see some (all?) of the Samsung tablets have GPS built-in so takes care of the missing info.

Any news you can relate for the TeleGPS and TeleMini????

You still won't see any maps, but you will get distance and direction information. If you have wifi and can tether from your phone, you would have maps.

TeleGPS is in production and should be up for sale in about two weeks. TeleMini is still in development; we've been side-tracked with other projects recently.
