Speaking of wire, does anyone know where to buy the tiny zip wire AT uses on the smallest of the First Fire Jrs? I see 26AWG as the smallest most places carry, but the insulation is thick like any other ematch wire.

It's called shooting wire. Skylighter just sent out an email deal for some. Buy 2 get 1 free.

Gah... Just re-read that you are after the thinner stuff. I made some with wire-wrap wire that came in small enough for the 24mm. I haven't tried it on the 18mm.

I seen that sale too, but thanks for mentioning it.

I used 30AWG wrapping wire (like used in the thermalite days), but the stuff is tougher to strip and often breaks the wire too. Also tried magnet wire - need to sand or burn the enamel off instead of striping it.

Folks, I've made ematches from scratch,

You can buy reliable e-matches for under $1 a piece. I used to make my own igniters, but have now found it easier and more reliable to use a pyrodex pellet at the top of the stack and light that with an e-match. Very reliable. I am now using my pyrogen dip to butter up the inside of smaller grains where a pellet is impractical.
