Yup. There IS such a thing. Just when you thought the term psychedelic was old hat, comes this way something redefining it. I really like this song and for any of you listeners out there that indulge in crafty New Age, just click on the link and let it play in the background. Comments please! I hope I'm not the only after-generation hippy, (aka, freaks) of the day, that still appreciate mind massaging / bending music.

Both are excellent. Very mellow. This sort of music is often grouped in with Ambiance music which has similar qualities. If you like this sort of music, Google a radio show called Echoes. For me, it is on public radio on Saturday night, 9 PM until midnight. Some very amazing stuff.

Gary- as a former musician and synthhead, I've amassed way too much vinyl (and digital files) of both human and machine (AI)produced music. look into Trance or Ambience categories for this flavour of tunes. User friendly software such as Cakewalk and FruityLoops have generated some really amazing home brews. The strangest in the collection is an Aeolian Wind Harp- a huge construction of wood and strings mounted in a North Caroline Valley and consists of various wind speeds recorded passing thru these strings at different speeds. Boring to say the least but the unique idea intriqued me. Ambient indeed! Thanks for the relaxing post!

Both of these tunes get air play on SPA, the New Age channel on Sirius/XM which is where I first heard them. Harold, I'm well aware of the Echos program on public radio as it used to be the only source I had at one time for this type of listening pleasure. Fyrwrxz, like you, I have a plethora of vinyl I just refuse to part with. As a former Ax Junkie, I've always been drawn a little closer to stringed instruments and music. I've always had an ear for most types of music and as I grew older, my focus is generally on smooth jazz and new age. Now don't think for a minute that I can't rewind a little and get a belly full of Aerosmith or some played to death Led Zepplin because now and then I will. I've also learned I can't concentrate on my work with distracting rock-n-roll music like I can with ambient sounds. So I just leave the radio on the SPA channel for the most part.

Very nice. I hadn't heard of Diane Arkenstone. David Arkenstone's Valley in the Clouds was one of my favorite albums back when it came out. Late 80's.

Interesting. Some of my favorite stuff is kinda similar, maybe a little more mainstream and commercial now. Stuff like Speer and Lanz (I've got a couple of their video tapes). Also some synth/electronic music (can't think of names off the top of my head...).

This is nice for background and ambiance music.

Tell me what you think of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF769M5c0Wo

The plucked, or moreso the bowed psaltry is an instrument that can sound like the whisper of an angel, or worse than nails on a blackboard.

Brian Eno, anyone?

I use that sort of music for early Sunday mornings and late night vegging. Working? No, the missus says she can tell how close to the deadline I am by how loud and raucous my music choices get.

I'd forgotten about Echos. That's been going on for a very long time. Glad to hear it and thank you for the SPA, tip.

I like to listen to new age when I have a hard time sleeping, puts me right out.

I was a pretty big fan of Andreas Vollenweider back in the early 90s. Never thought I'd like the sound of the harp but I really got into it. My friends thought I was nuts.

Now THIS is much like what got me started appreciating Ambient music even more. Much like Jeff mentions, Andreas Vollenweider was my big 1st addiction. When Kryptos came out, I started to wander away from Vollenweider somewhat as he seemed to be taking a new angle that just didn't do it for me. Cosmopoly was the last CD I bought and then quit buying Vollenweider altogether. I bought the 1st album back when it was the only one out there. Very early 80's I believe.

Jeff, I always have a hard time sleeping and I die every single night to this stuff.

Back in the day Pink Floyds Meddle album (or 8 track) was very Psychedelic.:eyepop:

This would be good for a yoga class and other relaxing venues, but I like my psychedelic more complex.

Some of my scratchers where built on Rock n Roll and some on more mellow stuff. Depends on the build. "Rage Against The Machine" seems to work for me. I like the power, energy I guess??????????
Now, I do like the mind bending stuff also. I really like it when Im getting my monthly massage!!! I bring in "Indian Fruit" incense and she plays some mellow yellow stuff and Im off to la la land for and hour.
Speaking of incense, I think they help set the mood. Smell is a very powerfull sence

Not quite my cup of tea. For soothing music, I prefer something like Clannad, Celtic Woman or Enya.

Celtic Woman covering the Clannad song: Harry’s Game

Clannad: I will Find You

Enya: Only Time

I find Pink Floyd to be relaxing even though some of the lyrics are quite violent.

The guy did a great job with that bladerunner cover. Wish I could afford a Jupiter.

I used to listen to Echoes every week in high school. Eventually I got sick of it. The way it goes is nice synth song, impressive acoustic guitar song, something in between, then just as I'm relaxing, they throw in something with strange ethnic chanting that makes me have to turn it off "until it's over" but I forget to turn it back on.

I'm a little surprised to see no mention of Hearts of Space, which I feel is a better radio program, and has been going for thirty years. They tend to stick with a theme for each week so if you like the first couple songs you'll like the whole hour. Then some weeks I turn it off and put a cd on instead.

I present a song from an album I discovered through Echoes, an album which is a major contributor to why I started playing keyboards. https://youtu.be/CALt4nNaRbo The strange this is that he's primarily a guitar player. When he teamed up with a keyboard player for a few albums that resulted in some great stuff too. https://youtu.be/rdxDrsMCu4A I just love the way this song builds up.

Your links sound great to me. I'm no stranger to some the older "Hearts Of Space" as I have tapes that were given to me by a friend. I have no other access otherwise.

Echos is still a Sunday evening treat available on Public Radio in our area, but I rarely ever go there since I have Sirius radio. I suppose we all follow avenues for our listening pleasure. I am personally inspired by music that tunes my mind. I'm especially moved by something I have never heard before that brings joy to my ears. Thank you for your links.

If you have an hour and fifteen minutes to blow, try this out. Has great animated and authentic video involved as well. Great Track! The music is a combination of astral/electronic music that falls in with the given new age mindset. Once you click the web link, scroll down to where it says, "Explora, Undersea Life. CLICK HERE.
