Just MAY be able to attend this! 4 hour drive for me..Probably just as a 'day trip' depending on finances...

Hello from Cocoa Beach. The NARCON2014 Team is now registered for The Rocketry Forum and we'll be checking this discussion thread from time to time. If anyone has any questions, comments or suggestions we'd be happy to hear them and respond as we are able. The event is already shaping up quite nicely, with three former NASA astronauts already committed to appearing on our "Meet the Astronauts" panel during the Saturday evening banquet. Lots more info to come. Registration should be available in early November.

Looking forward to hearing more about this event, the topics sound great! What the KSC and CCAFS tours will look like, will they be similar to the public tours?

Paul, thanks for asking. Our intent is to give NARCON 2014 registrants a very personalized, private tour of KSC and CCAFS that will (unavoidably!) feature some of the same things you might see on the public tours, but also will include a few peeks at some things not included on the public tours. Plus we'll have expert guides on each bus who know the place, will be able to answer your questions, won't be reading from a script and won't talk down to you. We won't be rushed at any of the stops we make, and we'll also pick you up and drop you off at the conference hotel. (Standard disclaimer: Remember at all times this is an operational launch site so tour details/plans could change at the last minute.)

We're still working the final budget, but our intention is to make the tour part of the registration fee, and if you bring family who want to take the tour (which we expect to last 3 to 4 hours) we'll make extra seats available for dirt cheap -- probably in the range of $5 to $10, depending on the final cost of the bus rentals. (This is a non-profit effort all the way!)

All that said, we are working with the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to make significantly discounted tickets available to NARCON 2014 attendees and their families so you can come a day early or stay a day later and take the public tour if you want -- which would let you see the Apollo Saturn V Center and, best of all, the new Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit that is an absolute, tear-jerking must see!

More to come!

We've updated www.narcon2014.org with a new flyer we're going to hand out here in Central Florida this weekend. We're working on the full web site so you can register and pay, which we hope to have live by Nov. 11 or 12 if the html gods are good and our wives let us have the time.

What's new on the flyer is that you can now reserve your hotel room at the International Palms Resort Hotel on Cocoa Beach. $99 a night. Call 800-206-2747 and mention code NAR. BTW, this is the only way you can get the special room rate is if you call.

Also we have set the conference fee schedule as well. Early bird rate through the end of this year for NAR members is $30 and for non-NAR members is $40. This includes technical sessions, exhibits/vendors, door prizes/raffles, Friday night dessert reception, Saturday lunch and Saturday afternoon break snack. These prices will go up another $10 from Jan. 1 to Feb. 14, which is the official cut off for registering. Late registrations will be available but will be costly. Full time student rate will be $15 through Feb. 14.

The Saturday night banquet featuring our "Meet the Astronauts" panel of Bob Cabana, Sam Durrance and Winston Scott is $30 per person (we're leaning toward the surf and turf menu). And the special personalized motor coach tour of the Cape on Sunday afternoon will be $25 per person.

These low prices are made possible with the help of our growing list of sponsors that now includes Space Florida.

More to come!

Paul/all: Allow us to expand a bit on the bus tour pricing because it wound up being different from what we said in our initial reply to you. In the final analysis of our budget, the cost of the motor coach rentals and the timing of events we made a couple of decisions that changed the way we settled on the fee structure. We decided not to include the bus tour in the regular conference fee for two reasons: 1) to keep the conference fee as low as possible to encourage and enable as many people to attend the sessions as possible and 2) because we wanted to accommodate the widest number of travel options for our attendees and their families. In other words, we didn't want to include a bus tour in the conference fee if someone wasn't going to be able to stay through Sunday afternoon because they needed that time to travel home, or the family wanted to spend the day at the KSC Visitor Complex or over in Orlando, or whatever.

Hopefully this makes it easier and more affordable for the largest number of people.

Let us know if you have any questions and comments are always welcome!

Al, vendor fee is $40 for the first table (6-foot-long) and $10 for each additional table. This also gives you one admission for all the things a registered attendee gets. Any additional people you want to bring with you to help who also want to participate in the sessions, reception, lunch and snack would need to register at normal conference rate. Saturday night dinner and Sunday bus tour would be extra for all.

To reserve a vendor table or for more information on vendor stuff in general, contact Bob Koenn at [email protected].

Derek, see the note above. All I can add is it will be unique, especially informative and fun -- and all will depend on what's happening operationally that weekend. We've got a Delta 4 and a Falcon 9 looking to fly in that general time frame. You never know....

The NARCON 2014 registration page is up, but appears to be broken. Pressing the submit button on the initial form results in an error message.

What stops are you going to make on the bus tour?

Because of things going on at the Air Station, the exact sites to be visited may change up to the last minute. But, the folks who do the tours are used to working with the Air Force and contractors to map the most interesting route possible. :)

As an example, members of some local rocketry clubs went on one of the tours a few years ago. I posted photos from the tour at:

I suspect the NARCON tour will be much more enjoyable and memorable than the more common public tours for both space geeks and those that give us a funny look because we can name the crew members of specific shuttle flights by memory. (Actually, it's Robb that can name all the astronauts for most of the shuttle flights. He's the guy wearing the blue flight suit in the photos I linked to. Robb's not really an astronaut, but has played one during tours of the CCAFS.)

Will, sent you a direct e-mail. It appears you were trying to register at the same time we were making the pages live and troubleshooting the coding. Thanks for letting us know.

If anyone else has trouble now (as of Monday night the 18th) please let us know. There's still some polishing of the site that needs to be done, and there will be a lot more information posted in the weeks to come, especially on the schedule page. But for now it is possible to register and make your payment. We already received our first official registrant and payment earlier today, so something is working right.

BTW, it's possible there may be some obscure web browsers that have problems, so if you do run into trouble, please let us know what browser/version you're using.

Thanks!

Roger offers sound commentary!

The NARCON 2014 website has most if not all of its bugs worked out, thanks to much help from some of you. The registration process is working well now and folks are signing up at a nice steady pace.

Note that our early bird rates of $30 for NAR members and $40 for non-NAR members is good through the end of this year.

Room rates at the International Palms Resort and Conference Center are $99 a night. Call the hotel directly at 1-800-206-2747 to reserve your room and use the code "NAR" to get the rate.

Is there a flyer that can be downloaded and printed out so I can show it to my wife and a couple other folks without dragging them in front of a computer?

Thanks!

Hello. Looking forward to NARCON!

Earlier in this thread it was suggested that there may be discounts available for the Kennedy Space Center for NARCON attendees. Is that still the case and how will one obtain said discounts?

Thanks.

Steve

Steve, thanks for the question and for registering. We're still working on the details of the discount admission to the KSC-VC. Could be late January before it's all ironed out, but right now we're hoping to either mail something to all registrants before they get here, or e-mail a unique webpage link to go to download discounts, or at the very least have a folder full of area coupons available at check-in. We'd like to be able to send stuff out in advance, however, in case someone flies in a day or two before we open up the registration desk. You'll know when we know.

The NARCON 2014 Organizing Host Committee announces that DFR Technologies, HobbyTown (West Melbourne, Fla.) and JonRocket.com are the first three vendors to sign up to display their wares at NARCON 2014 next Feb. 28-March 2.

See https://www.narcon2014.org/vendors.html for more information, or to contact us if you are interested in joining the Vendor/Exhibit Room.

Paul, thanks for the comment. We admit there could be some tough choices here, but you can float from one session to another within the same hour to get a taste of each. As quietly as possible, of course!

We had a question about adding and paying for an option later, after you've already initially registered and paid. (John: Tried to reply directly to you but the forum software said you had reached your stored private message quota.)

If you are already registered and want to add on a dinner ticket, or a seat for the Sunday afternoon excursion, or whatever, just go directly to https://narcon2014.org/payment.html

It would be helpful if you would then send a note to [email protected] to let us know so we can keep things straight on our attendee spreadsheet.

Thanks,
