How many TRF members carry a pocket knife daily? My guess is that a significant portion carry pocket knives because we DIY people need them!

My new Benchmade Volli just arrived. After the pictures I moved the pocket clip to the other side for left-handed carry. The Volli is the perfect size for a carry knife. It definitely looks better than my old knife, a Doug Ritter RSK Griptilian.

The finish on the Volli's S30V blade is nicer than that of my old knife. Tooling marks can still be seen in the blade, but that doesn't bother me for a working knife. The Volli is noticeably thinner than the Griptilian. The scales have horizontal ridges milled into them. Griptilian scales are too smooth. The Volli scales fixed that problem.

Griptilian scales are also plain on the bottom or 'belly'. The Volli is nicely sculpted to give a better purchase on the handle.

Even though I've only had the Volli an hour, I'm already very happy with it.

I love axis locks... I think a Bedlam may be the next knife I get.

I've got a few old photos of a couple knives. Haven't dug them all out of their respective hiding places recently.

I've since boxed these all up, but before rockets took over my closet it looked like this:

oh yea, the original question... I do carry one every day. Lately it's been either a Kershaw Blur, or a Benchmade Griptillian. For awhile I was doing small fixed blades like the izula or ESEE 3.

My EDC is a Buck "Whittaker" climbing knife. It's very thin, has a liner lock and the grip is skeletonized in the rear of the handle to provide a large integral lanyard loop. The blade is a drop point about 3-3.5 inches long and has a small serrated section of blade near the hilt. Thumb button for one handed opening and it can be "flicked" open if you prefer the switchblade style. ;)

It has so far done everything I've asked of it.

My knife of last resort is a CRKT Kasper and I'll say no more about it.

Wow! Knife porn! I ALWAYS carry a blade of some type (except where not allowed). Currently I have a little Leatherman Skeletool. It clips on the pocket, is light weight, has a knife, bottle opener, pliers, and 4 screwdriver options. I use it daily! I lost my original a month ago and had to get a replacement. While I was without, I carried a Buck. I also like fixed blades and when you work as a butcher, you can't help but love knives!!!

I have a couple sping assisted Bench Mades. Nice army provided weapon. I prefer my 14 inch Cold Steel tanto.

My collection is small but I think its good. The sword was my fatherinlaws sword when he was a navy officer back in the Korean era. I do have a fixed blade but I really like my Harley Davidson knife.

Here's my EDC, and a few others.

I also got another Victorinox Ranger in the mail today.

The funny thing is out of all my knives the three I've used most have been
A) Wenger from scouting
B) Buck 105 pathfinder I hiked extensively with in my late teens
C) Gerber EZ Out I beat to death working at Six Flags

All cheap knives that if cared well for would last my entire life. That said, the ESEE 6 is quickly becoming my new favorite hiking knife, and the Benchmade Griptillian Is a great beater knife. I really loved the Stryker, until the spring wore out.

I carried a Swiss Army knife for about thirty years straight.. until I finally wore out and retired it last year... I miss it just about every day! I suppose I should maybe get a new one.

I bought my old pocket knife when I was 12 years old. Saved up for months in order to buy it. A twelve year old whould probably get shot for carrying one these days.. What has our country come to?

I carry a Kershaw 3000 DWO in black for work. The rubber cover is easier on the pocket and doesn't wear through them as fast. I have a Kershaw 3000 DWO yellow that I carry when I'm at home or at the farm and a red when I go out. The black hasn't had a sharp edge in years. I really ought to get a stone and try my hand at sharpening it. I like the black cover for the work knife because it doesn't show the dirt.

Everyone, thanks for the compliments and also for the pictures of your cool knives.

I've had some requests for more pictures.

Here are just a few of my knives:

Top to bottom on the left:
Gerber 600 that belonged to my brother. I got it when he passed away. Too big for everyday carry.
Buck 502 that belonged to my dad. Sheath knife, given as a gift and never carried.
Buck 303, also my brother's. Probably 25 years old.
Imperial that my dad carried for years.

Right side, top to bottom:
Puma Raven that I bought in about 1992. Carried it in a sheath until the sheath gave out. Used to have the similar model with traditional scales instead of polymer but that one got stolen.
Buck 301 that I've had since I was 17. Carried it so much that the Buck emblem on the side plate has nearly worn off.
Cheap Gerber clone. Carries a good edge after reshaping it and careful dressing.
Case XX that belonged to my grandfather. 60+ years old.

I've had a great many others over the years, but the Buck 301 and Puma are the ones I pick up first when I need one.

You know, in the UK knives are a touchy subject. It is pretty much VERY illegal to carry any type of knife. You COULD get away with a less than 3inch non-locable blade but you have to prove that you have a good reason to have it on you, ie electrician or builder.

When I was in the States a few months ago I wanted a knife to take with me on the road for 2 months, but I also wanted to take it back with me, therefore I could only get a less than 3 inch non-lockable 'UK LEGAL' knife from a gun store in LA. The guys found it hilarious! Must've got the smallest knife in the whole shop!

All this knife talk..I recently broke the one I carry, I hate having any thing in my pocket so I like a knife with a belt clip. Since mine broke I got on ebay looking for a replacement, these are the two I ordered, can't wait to get them. Actually I'd rather hold a kinfe in my hand and really check it out before buying but I use mine daily at work so I just took the chance, I'm hoping they're not chincy.

sorry, but all I can think of is this:

There are only two kinds of pocket knives; those that get lost and. . .Guess there’s only one kind of pocket knife.

From the above you might ascertain that I don’t carry a pocket knife.

Looked up what it would cost to replace the Puma that was stolen: $100 plus or minus a few. I think I paid around $65 for it when I first got it. Then again, they are German made with some of the best knife steel in the business.

All I can think about when anyone talks about a pocket knife is the episode of the Simpsons where Bart needs to get his merit badge for a knife before he can have one.

Doubly funny since I have had an appendectomy and I was within an hour or so of "bursting".

Me? I have a Leatherman Micra in each of my cars and a Leatherman Squirt E4 in my range box. The only other knives I own are these.

(Oh wait I do have some old Swiss Army knives / multitools around here as well but I don't count them since I can't find them)

A few old Bucks, Shrades, and bought this from a knife maker in early 80s, Jackson Hole, WY.
5.5" blade, elk handle.
Hung on belt the whole time while in WY, no one said a word.

Searching around and this old thread popped up.....I'm looking for a replacement edc. My dad recently gave me a knife that in a very short time became my favorite. This was only a few months ago. The other day, it seems I may have lost it, so I went to look for a replacement and was shocked when I saw the value. It was a new in the box Gerber Airframe. See a few replacements on ebay , all around $350 + !! It was so hard to tell dear ole Dad I think I lost it.

I am hoping what happens is what usually does - in a year it will show up. I am so waiting for that day.

In the meantime I am still looking. Your Volli looks nice how is it holding up? I like the Drop and Clip points. Seem to be gravitating toward Kershaw and Gerber as I learn and research them.
