I still have no idea, and I have built 2 other 2 stagers... The conduit goes all the way up to before the av bay then? its pretty confusing.

-edit-

Im assuming you use break wires, and use the electronics in the normal av bay for DD flights to fire the motor as well? I have a hard time thinking it'll be easy to pass wires for a separation charge through there as well so does that go in the electronics in the interstage coupler? looking for some clarification here

The conduit is a chase that goes from the bottom motor mount centering ring to the top motor mount centering ring. If you put your staging electronics in the sustainer av-bay it allows for you to get a separation charge and a sustainer ignition charge wired. Example: staging electronics mounted in the sustainer av-bay, lift off event is triggered by a specific G-force and starts the event timers. Event #1 is set to fire a seperation charge at motor burn out +1 second. Event #2 is set to ignite the sustainer motor at motor burn out +3 seconds. Booster recovery is either cave man style with the motor ejection charge of a timer/altimeter mounted in the interstage coupler av-bay. How have you achieved staging on your 2 previous 2 stage projects?

I cut the body right above the fins on my 2 stage darkstar and put an av bay in there (limits to a 4G motor in 2 stage config) and the other one (a two stage Formula 54) I made the MMT removable and had pieces of all thread that went through 4 centering rings and an av bay sled on those with a 54mm sealed bulk plate above all the electronics. I can take pictures later if you want.

This is whats great about 2 staggers so many ways to do things.
The original design allows you to use either your altimeter bay in the upper to light the sustainer motor. or you can light it from below with the interstage coupler.
I have never used a separation charge myself and it has worked fine for me, but others have tried and it has worked for them I personally have not seen a reason to use one.
Like i said in the beginning of this this design is a proven and easy one.

How about carbonite ?

Carbonite! :eyepop:

That's what Han Solo would need for his 2-stager (Han Duo?) I asked about the black profusion because I was thinking of a match for the 3" Dark Star as booster...I'm guessing the carbonite must be a premium upgrade?

How does staging work with this design if you don't use a separation charge? Do you just hope for drag separation, or let sustainer ignition actually blast the booster off (wouldn't that scorch the coupler?)

To answer your questions, yes, yes, and yes!

Profusion is a tubing that PR makes that Wildman's doesn't carry.
We carry another black glass product we call Carbonite "Coined By CJ".
It is what your 3" Dark Star is made out of .

You use the motor to separate and no it won't scorch the coupler any more than an ejection charge will, unless you are using thermite to light your upper or something else goes wrong.

Nice! So it would match...thanks for clearing that up, for some reason I thought the 3" DS was the profusion tubing. Anyway just placed an order for the upgrade kit through your website, please do cut one from your "carbonite" stock!

Anyone going to Airfest? Mine will fly an L3200 to a L935. :)

I'll be at AirFest; we'll see if I fly mine there, or not -- I already have something else planned that's going to take some time.

1 rocket over a 4 day weekend really you girllyman (in my best Arnold voice), I will fly more than that and work over the whole weekend.

Yes, but you forget, part of my time is consumed in giving you endless rations of grief. :)

I think I once flew three rockets at an LDRS. It was....weird.

I have had a lot of people asking me if we can make there rocket into a 2 stage .
The answer is yes we can. Any rocket that Wildman's currently makes we can make into a 2 stage.
You will have to check the stability and fllyability of it (Gizmo and Jart) , but I can make an interstage coupler and sustainer for it.
you will have to contact us for a price on anything other than the 3" Wildman.

Hey Tim, quick note here because this may be the fastest way to get a message to you-- I got your voicemail this afternoon and gave a call back but it must have been too late there. I am away from home traveling at the moment and have very poor cell reception here but I will try to give a call again tomorrow...

In case you're wondering what you get when you order the two stage kit, here are all the bits!

Is the dust free?

Just kidding, looks like a nice kit! Now if only I had a lot more pennies...

I'd be careful -- Tim has buckets of dust; you wouldn't want one to get included with an order.... :)

You haven't done this have you?

Ok since I’m in the German rocket mindset with my current Wasserfall build. I would like to do a 6 or 8 inch diameter all fiberglass 2 stage A9/A10 rocket for the 2 stage MWP drag race. If I purchase all the components from Wildman does this count as a “Wildman” rocket.

umm umm umm, John I am fearless, and you scare even me.
I have to think about this one.
The canned response should be NO but , I will think about it.
