As an Australian - I approve of this!

In the Space hipsters group on Facebook, Mike Scott asked this:

"In the Saturn V, the LM was stored between the third stage and the SM, but what was in that same space for the Saturn 1B launches to Skylab?"

So, my fun answer applicable for those Skylab missions was.....

"AIR.
Then less air.
Then way less air.
Then very little air.
Then a few molecules.
Then a molecule every so often, for a period of time.
And then more molecules, and then a little more air.
Then a lot more air, but really HOT, plasma-like hot, then....."

Except Apollo 8, it did carry a LEM, for testing in space, as I recall. But none to Skylab as stated.

Nope. Before the Skylab missions, only one manned Saturn-IB Apollo flight was made, Apollo-7 to LEO.

Apollo-5 was launched before then, with an unmanned Lunar Module (no legs), and not CM/SM. The IB could not launch a CM/SM/LM combo into orbit.

Apollo-8 was launched by a Saturn-V, and flew into orbit around the moon, but did not have an LM.

Later, Saturn-V's launched with full CM/SM/LM combos. Apollo-9 into LEO to test the Lunar module with a crew before going to the Moon.

Then Apollo-10 into orbit around the moon, the LM coming within 10,000 feet of the surface, as a final test flight before Apollo-11's landing.

After Skylab, the last Apollo flight was Apollo/Soyuz, which launched a CM/SM, plus inside the adapter was a special Docking Module.

Ocd detector reading negative. Plenty of hits on the "irony", "poor planning", and "unfortunate" readouts though.

I could see why someone would want to break the pattern jussst a little occasionally.
(Then again, I have personally dumped the Skittles in the M&Ms at least three times)

It's the article that made me laugh, not the photo, found on "The Onion"-like satire site for military veterans, "Duffel Blog":

After declaring victory over ISIS, Iraq returns to being an idyllic paradise

BAGHDAD — After retaking Mosul and declaring victory over the Islamic State, Iraq returned to it’s previous state of utopia, sources confirmed today.

“Iraq is now liberated from the scourge of ISIS,” Iraqi Prime Minster Haider al-Abadi said. “Now we can focus on the positive aspects of Iraq, like the low taxes on highway repair, waste disposal, and women’s education.”

“We also have the world’s best police force,” al-Abadi said. “Look at how many criminals they’ve packed into our prisons. They are honest as well. Over the last decade there have been zero convictions of police corruption. In fact, you can’t find a single witness!”

Recently added to the list of “Developing Nations” by the International Association of Realtors, Iraq has the world’s lowest homeless population and is the easiest place to adopt stray dogs.

Although parts of the Iraqi economy are stagnant, there are some great jobs for Iraqis. Politician remains the most lucrative option, followed by bodyguard and bomb-maker.

“Tourists will love to see all the beautiful places in Iraq,” al-Abadi said. “Come visit Babylon and the Ziggurat of Ur. Tourists will get a chance to see a blend of many cultures.”

“If they visit certain areas it will be just like going to Yemen!” al-Abadi added after running off the podium, chased by a camel spider.

At press time, Iraqi politicians were declaring a trash bag floating in the wind the country’s national bird.

Okay, what the heck was going on in the actual picture?!?! :eyepop:
I believe it's a test of the new multispectral cammo. But, seriously, it's obviously a joke photo they staged, probably for some inside joke only they know.

Are you trying to say that someone in the military was just clowning around? :) Sorry about that, but somebody just HAD to do that....
