You've probably never seen the moon like this. That's because the moon is tidally locked to Earth, so we only see one side. Almost like its spinning with us. This video was created using images from the Lunar Reconnaissance orbiter.

So the dark crater with the bright spot on the far side is? I'm genuinely curious.

Did not know but googled it (you coulda, y'know? )

It's on the Dark Side.... uh, no FAR Side of the moon.

Tsiolkovsky crater. The name from Russia's earliest and most revered rocket/space scientists, decades before Goddard & vonBraun.

Russia named it first because.... they flew a satellite (Luna-3) past the far side first and got pictures, which included that crater. Many officials in the West suspected the images were not real till later US missions proved they were (I did know about Russia getting the first images of the far side, and not being believed, just did not recognize the crater itself. They'd have been stupid to fake the images knowing that eventually the U.S. would send a satellite to get images of the far side too).

Tsiolkovsky crater is 180 km across. More info in this video showing it pass by, and of course there is always google.
