Off again to the land of Skunk Works, Speed, and Spaceship One...

Weather was what I call perfect. Warming from the mid-50s to mid 70's over the course of the 5 hour launch. That's 12C to 23C for the rest of the world on the planet. Winds were from 0 to no more that a slight breeze. Almost nothing to be concerned with.

When I pulled in I could hardly believe my eyes! What's Up Hobbies was there... my favorite crack er... CTI dealer! Turns out he was there to fly and not to sell! Way to go Jack G. About time you took time off.

However my first mission was to take all the lunch money I had save up and snap up some Aerotech Reloads. That mission was acomplished snapping up 3 J's (38/720) and 4 I's (2 38/360 and 2 38/480). Now devoid of money... I decided to warm up a pad or two before my main act on the day...

My Vaughn Bros Javelin on a CTI 164-H90CL-12 to with a MissileWorks RRC2 for apogee deployment (with motor backup set to 9 seconds). As you can surmise from the sane CTI labeling, this is a classic formula motor and is bare a H. More like a full G. It's a 29mm 3 grain load.

Glamour Shot.

Off we go to a RRC recorded 1661' (506m) - Which is almost spot on ROCSim's estimate now that I have it dialed in.

A happy ending. :)

I started on the rocket way way back called the Deucey 2.5. It was designed to burn D12-0s for which I have too many and some D12-7s and E9s. Point is I have a lot of BP motors for staging and this rocket was supposed to help alleviate that (as well as my newest scratch built - Saparinger-XL

After planting the sustainer I had to take a piece of a Skywriter (good for parts IMO) and low and behold, I have the Pencil Neck Deucey.

The weather was so good, the time was ripe... so we went for broke D12-0 to a E9-6 :surprised: :y::wink:

Glam Shot... yeah that rod was short... but no issues. No wind either.

Staging went fine and we were able to tracking the sustainer to an Adept ATLIM-1 recorded 2004' (610m).

I used a 10inch nylon chute to bring it down into the sand without damage. Recovery of booster was easy.

Aerotech IQSY Tomahawk on 24mm CTI 73-F30WH-6. Nice 2.6 second burn. An 84% of a full F.

I'd tell you the altitude but I forgot to press the button and arm the recording altimeter... :confused2::confused2:
The flight was great and no issues with recovery.

I saw the Deucy launch. You sent it up not long after I got here. Nice flight!

I'd been procrastinating long enough. I loaded the Dagger 38 with an Aerotech I245G-M with 2 seconds off the delay. This is a baby 'I' being only 10% as powerful as a full 'I'. It has only 20 newton-seconds more total impulse than a full H. I like low and slow. Maybe *I* should take over that moniker with the real Captain heading for a mile high.

This was my first use of the Aerotech reload adaptor system. A 360 load in a 600 case. I read the threads and made sure to shim with tape the delay insulator, the delay itself, and the delay spacer. NFW was any of those going to slip. And if they don't slip, then BP is not going to leak around them and cause an issues so I loaded the BP in the well. Then put the adhesive cap on, and taped over it. After that, assembly was pretty much uneventful. So there was that...

I had preloaded and prepped the Archetype Cable Cutter. This small cylinder is perfect for this rocket. I wadded up the chute, and placed it into a burrito wrapped nomex protector, placed the cutter next to it, and cinched down the ty-wrap. I wrapped the wire around the ty-wrap so it could not pull out of the cutter. I also made sure that as the rocket stretched out at apogee, nothing would pull on the wire or cutter. It all fits soooo neatly into the Dagger's 3 inch (8cm) tubing. Wired it to the Adept-22's main deployment channel and we was ready to rock-and-roll.

3... 2... 1... crap... Ignitor burned.... no bueno
3... 2... 1... crap... new ignitor did not burn and shows open on a meter - no va
3... 2... 1... crap... newer ignitor did not burn but shows open NOW tho it ohm'd out showing fine
By now of course the assembled crowd is roaring with the "Can't get it up jokes... "

So I went over to Jack... he gives me a Quickburst Slim-Gem... Jack smiles... That's get you up! (More laughter.)

3... 2.. 1... Seems to have gotten me up...:eyeroll:

The motor blew the rocket apart almost exactly at apogee (measured at 1151' - 350m by the Adept-22) and it bumbled and tumbled down to 600' (180m) where a POP was heard and sure enough the protector fell away and the chute unfurled... happy camper! :horse:

ROCSim had estimated 1146' so again, after a few flights, and playing with CD I seem to have gotten the sim dialed in.

Those are some fine look'n photos of the good looking rockets ya got there Jeff.

Very cool stuff!

Time was winding down... so a quick but successful BB flight. I also flew my scatch rebuilt Big-70 on an old E15-4. Went through two ignitors on that as well. Sheesh. Only got a photo of the BB cause I was pressing the button on the Big-70

... he flys in style. Aerotech 5 grain M I think - not sure the designation... went to 8000+' (2.4km) and recovered Dual Depoy with no issues.

Maybe it's a good thing I didn't wander overto Jack's trailer. Might have gotten myself into BIG trouble....
