I miss Vulcan. I.miss it so much, I'm building another one.

Curious; I take it that its a hot wire cut wing? Do you do a leading edge to trailing edge at the root type of cut or is it radial fan cut from the tip?

Richard

Coby at flyingfoam.com cuts my cores using his custom CNN cutter. I recommend his services wholeheartedly. Some of the more technical details are obscure to me, but I understand that his cutter has two independent gantries.

One change I'm making in this iteration of the design is switching from launch lugs to rail guides. I'm adding 3/8" plywood standoffs to the fuselage tube. I plan to mount PML resin rail guides on these standoffs. The front standoff sits at the thickest part of the airfoil and wing foam completely envelopes it. The rear standoff is cantilever and is going to require more attention to filetting to keep side loads from breaking it off.

Looking at the blue tube with these two pieces of plywood, the assembly looks strangely like a submarine :=)

I fell behind in the thread. Vulcan flew at Snow Ranch on Dec. 5. Here's me catching up on assembly photos.

I missed this entire thread before. this is so very cool! I don't think I've seen anything like it before. Congrats on it's resurrection and successful flight!

Three more flights today, I49N G115W and H90C. It's remarkable how little smoke the Warp-9 propellant produces.

I see those rolling hills and it makes me miss Silicon Valley.

I've been here since 2003, and I'm growing tired of the place. It's like a California Gold Rush mining town. No one is from here. People come and go. Everyone is sure he'll make a fortune fast. The half-life of an immigrant is 3 years. It's like Hollywood--people come here with big dreams and bigger egos, and in a couple of years the Valley chews them up and spits then out.

Oh, and for 9 months out of they year, you can't fly because the rolling hills are covered in golden (dead) grass. This dead grass is the source of California's nickname, The Golden State. The nickname predates Gold Rush finds.

What made you leave?

I lived off Skyline Dr. in the Santa Cruz Mtns. Beautiful on the side of a mtn with a view of Santa Cruz and redwoods all around. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to us, my wife was allergic to cedars (redwood family) and was "near death" after 4+ years there. Had to leave for her to survive.

I'm glad you were able to diagnose that and save her!

OK, survive is a bit dramatic... But she was in bed nearly 50% of the time by the time we left after 4+ years in our home. Her quality of life improved significantly after moving back to Texas.

Mrs. Krupnik is from Texas and would be very happy to go back there.

2 flights on H45s today at Snow Ranch. I think someone has video, I'm waiting for that to trickle down. These motors are slow enough that I feel comfortable actively flying Vulcan under power. I keep both flights below 400' and pull some surprisingly tight, high-G, high-angle-of-bank turns.

Those H45 flights were beautiful Ari. My parents came out to see my Darkstar and i think you stole the show with those flights.

Thank you. I recall an Edmunds canard glider flight today. Is that one yours?

I was so jazzed about my K2045 that I missed your Dark Star with the camera! Apologies, I wanted to get that one. It was a great flight, too, though. Also when you get to fly that other motor I am sure it will get plenty of attention!

Yes, the H45 flights were lovely.
