Welcome to the SCALE (Sandia) Sandhawk Gallery on TRF.

This gallery showcases the Sandia Sandhawk and those rockets derived from it. Particularly appropriate in this thread are the following:

Rocket R&D: Sandhawk (2.6"):
Rocket R&D: Sandhawk (3.9"):
Rocket R&D: Sandhawk (5.5"):
Yank: Sandhawk (2"):
Yank: Sandhawk (3"):

as well as any upscales, downscales, clones, kitbashes or other derivative works. Even Goonies qualify!

The Sandhawk was a sounding rocket developed by Sandia National Laboratories in 1966. This single-stage, sub-orbital rocket had a mass of 700 kg (1,540 lb), a takeoff thrust of 80 kN (18,000 lbf), and could reach heights around 200 km or so. Sandia launched eight of these rockets between 1966 and 1974 as part of experiments conducted for the United States Atomic Energy Commission. About 25% of the launches failed.

29mm Aerospace Specialty Products (ASP) Sandhawk. It came with very detailed instructions and quality parts. I made detailed fin brackets using a 3-D printer and used 1-72 brass fasteners to enhance the fin can detail. I also reduced the length of the body tube by about 1” to more accurately match the scale profile.
