The Manta diagram you show above was the American Aircraft Modeler May 1969 magazine article. This was an earlier version that had a different pop pod connection than the later version. That same article has a photo that shows the pop pod with canard fins ala the 1968-69 Estes Nightwing BG. Howard says in the article that the model was conceived the night before NARAM-10 in Aug 1968.1969 Manta with canard pop pod.jpg

I’ve used both the Manta and Orbitron in local NAR Regional meets and they helped me score a lot of points in the competition. Very reliable and trustworthy models to use.
