    Star Wars kits

My 5 year old son watched star wars for the first time this week and now he is asking if there are any star wars rockets he could help me build and fly.

I am looking for the Estes LPR kits, preferably not the ready to fly ones (but if the price is right..i am game). They don't need to be first run, sealed and stored in a climate controlled room or anything like that. These will be built, flown, most likely repaired and flown again. I would prefer kits which are unbuilt because we have fun building (ok I have fun building but he helps). If they have missing parts, as long as they are parts I can re-create that works too.

My son thanks you for looking at this request.

Various Star Wars kits show up on eBay often. Try to avoid the small ready-to-fly ones which are ... well ... crap.

There are a few different X-Wing kits that are really cool. One is about eight inches long. Then there's the "Maxi" one that's the same size as the models used to make the films - about 18" long. There's also a mid-power kit from Estes/NCR that's the same size as the Maxi.

Next on the coolness scale is the larger R2D2 rocket. Again, watch out for the little ready-to-fly ones that are ... well ... you know.

Finally there's the Death Star rocket that is kind of cool though it look like the Death Star was impaled by a giant telephone pole.

I'll poke around my piles of stuff and see what I have left. At one time I had most of the Estes LPR stuff, including a few of the Star Wars starter sets to include the X-Wing set.

    Jason,

    Which film did he see?

I scored a bunch of kits off ebay years ago. Will you be at the CMASS launches in Acton this month? I can bring them along.

I won't be at the MMMSC launch on the 18th but will be there in September.

    Let me know.

Kenn, He saw A New Hope and is enamored with it. He woke up yesterday asking to watch star wars. This weekend we will watch Empire Strikes back.

I won't be able to make it to Acton this coming weekend but maybe we can make the launch on the 25th. If not we will be in Maine in September for sure! I appreciate you looking. We will have the "Rocketenator" to show you and launch the next time we see you!

    Roger,

Thanks for the info! I happen to have the NCR X-Wing that I picked up from Braden to build but that looks more like a "winter" build and honestly I'd rather work on my Plastic Modeling Skills on something a little, well, less daunting (and less expensive!)

I have looked on e-bay and you get a wide variety of what people think that these kits are worth. The issue is that on e-bay OOP kits tend to command a premium and adding on "Star Wars" makes it worse. There is an x-wing which is about 40-some bucks on ebay which I can only assume is priced too high since it has not been purchased in a few listings. I can set up a filter for ebay and wait but I thought I'd tap into the collective here since sometimes people have build piles 100s deep on here. If anyone has some which they were willing to part with for a "reasonable cost", I'd be thrilled (especially for a Maxi, but I am not holding my breath!). Otherwise I'll just wait for ebay to turn up something cool and reasonably priced.

I absolutely agree that the RTF ones are pretty much crap. I have not really found a RTF estes rocket that I really liked and these are no exceptions.

...and for the record, anything I pick up is being BUILT and FLOWN - not flipped on ebay! I just want to be clear on that as some people around here looking for OOP kits to "build" but somehow end up at a higher price on ebay.

I've seen quite a few Star Wars rocket kits for sale on Craig's List. Below is a list of what I found near Denver (I am not the seller). Most are RTF, but one kit looks promising.
I included the info and the link just in case someone could use it. Maybe you'll have luck looking on Craig's in your area.

ESTES - STAR WARS SERIES: Droid Fighter ($10); Naboo Fighter ($10); Naboo Royal Starship ($10); Death Star (I've got 2 of these)($10 each); and R2-D2 (15th Anniversary Edition)($15)

I started in model rocketry back in the early 80's with an Estes Star Wars kit. It was called "Proton Torpedo". I still have the box it came in, the rocket has been long gone. Not really sure what happened to it now that I think back. I would like to find another to replace it.

That rocket looks pretty simple to clone - the hardest part is the decal but you can find that here: http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/showt...ar+wars+proton

I think the mongoose, sky writer and a couple of the e2x kits would work.

I think the original kits for that are big bucks on eBay.

Thanks js! The decals do look exact. Would just need to find a way to print them in color.

There are a couple of options:
    • Color printer and label paper. Print it off at staples if you don't have a printer
    • http://excelsiorrocketry.com/ has water slides of these (I think). You can probably send a message to "sandman" on here
    • Mark at stickershock can probably make them if he doesn't have them on file

I am sure there are other options as well! Those are just the ones I know of.

I have the 15th Anniversary TIE Fighter and R2D2 kits, both unopened but dusty, that I'd be willing to part with.

I also found (but didn't photograph) the X-Wing and Death Star Starter Sets. The box does not say if the kits are RTF and the instructions say that paint and glue are required. Does this mean there are kits inside? I don't know for sure.

    Rich,

I think that the sets you didn't photograph are kits and not RTF. From my limited experience looking this stuff up the rtf rockets are all in blister packs and are of the following vehicles:
All of the phantom menace rockets
    A rtf x wing
    A rtf r2d2
A rtf x wing and tie fighter combo

Those are all the ones I have seen.

Nice stash! I sent a PM to both you and tonka. I really appreciate the effort guys! Just let me know.

    Hi all,
I too am interested in picking up a Star Wars X-wing kit -not RTF- and hoping not to break the bank in the process. If anyone has one for less than $45 (including shipping to Portland, Oregon) please send me a PM. I just missed one on ebay that I really wanted to buy!

    Thanks,
    Giggles
