My Bull Pup Rebuild going Patriot

Due to a pad fire don't ask, I decided to bring it back out after 7 years for the repairs. As you can see I have the parts made and ready to get going. I added 8" more for a Av-bay in the center section and will make the fins a little thicker. The fins are made of carbon fiber and I didn't make them thick enough and they are worping a little. It will also keep the CG at the same place as before. I used 6" sewer pipe for the tube process.

Lol, I can imagine... I usually leave my rockets in the back of my pickup covered up. I would hate for someone to call DHS on me as a potential bomber or something like that. I don't have any faith in other people's common sense.

LOL That was before 9/11 and my truck topper lock was broke. I don't have to do that now with my Suburban.

Bill, this is sweet! What Motor are you going to launch this on for it's next re-born flight.
I haven't really looked at sewer pipe till now...But my left some scrap in my garbage cans and I think this is a viable tubing..kinda heavy for the thickness though...

I will send it up on a J275 first. I just use the sewer pipe for the layups. Even a thin wall sewer pipe would be way heavy.

I like the J275, that should be perfect for this rocket. Nice shop you have to work in; what is that big stack of foam?

We manufacture Indoor Skydiving wind tunnels and we use that for strenght and to help keep the parts lite. Google IFLY Singapore and you will see what they look like all done I was at this place to help out with a problem and it is the best I have seen.

There are many ways to chose for the laminate schedule. I like to use 3 layers of 8 oz eglass ( tight weve ) I like to use epoxy for the resin but on the big stuff I use poly resin.

Poly Resin? Is this the real stinky stuff that has been labled as brittle? Could you clarify for me please?

Stinky it all stinks. If you are refuring to the Homedepot or the lowes boat resin no this is not that stuff. This is a comercial grade resin that we use. I don't know if anyone in here has used it. We go through 55 gallons a day of this stuff its good for a model rocket tube.

I had time to do some more fitting after work today. Got the av-bay going in smothly I will have to do some more after I glass the bt where I had to split it to get it off the sewer pipe. On the fin can I will be able to sand the fins back down to the cf and add some more to thicken them up then I will be able to do the body work. I will be glad to get that out of the way cf itch like heck. Any way here are some pics.

Well I decide to go Patriot style. I want to go with a camo paint job on this and it will just look better that way. now that I have the av-bay done I am giving the fins some more layers of cf to handle bigger motors. I bought the Aero pack 54mm motor retainer to make it easy to install the motors. First time I tryed one I likey.

Hey bro..the fins look really Honest John...but this thing is your own design. IT LOOKS FANTASTIC!
like the LPR guys do...what's that called.."Kit bashing?"
I thought about using my 1/4 Patriot booster with a transition to a 3 or 4" PACII Patriot.
I know the scale guys will yell at me for mixing years..but it's all supposed to be fun yes?

Looks great! Not really scale anymore but cool all the same.
Might I ask what you do that requires 55 gallons of resin per day? That seems like a ridiculous amount!

I would love if your company could come to the "First Coast" (Jacksonville to St Augustine) we have a lot of ocean front to set up.
and a LOT of tourist $$$$.

I am really liking that Boat Tail! a J-460 might be a cool second launch...even though it looks tough enough to Hammer on J-800's all day!
What is your weight so far?

Hi John. Bare bones right now it's 12# It will be around 20# on the pad I hope. I want to do a k-550 some time. I need the 1280 case to get to the next level of J's. I just made a big motor order so my funds are tapped for now. I want to try the K-456 Dark matter after I see what the J-275 will do. I Think it will take what I through at it. The K-550 will be the top load I will give it.

Ok I got a couple things done. I primed it with automotive primer and decided to go further now this sounds silly but yes I spent all the time to tape it off so I could camo it just to sand it all off again.well I decided to maiden it like this before I make it look real nice so this is why I did it. Now this is the first time I camo'd anything so take it easy on me. Next time it will most likely be a little diffrent.
