Bong launches scrubbed due to drought

According to the Tripoli Wisconsin website launches for July, Aug, Sept have been cancelled due to the ongoing drought.
Bummer. Does anyone have status of other nearby launches?

    On the downside...
-Bong launches should resume once (if) the area gets lots of rain; hopefully this happens soon! Lift the burn bans, rocketry should return to Bong.
-QCRS no longer flies at Walcott, IA during the summer months; they're done at Princeton, IL until Midwest Power.
-Tripoli Indiana is done in Ash Grove until the fall; I believe they're low-mid power sod farm is unavailable right now.

    On the upside...
-NARAM is in Muskegon, MI at the end of July
-CIA is still flying during the summer in Central IL.
-there may be other opportunities either A) locally if you aren't included in the burn bans and are willing to fly low power or B) are looking for a road trip to other areas!

    We need rain!

We have hadbthe same problems in South Dakota, Our brave fire fighting crews have already been fighting forest fires and we have even had a C-130 go down with the unfortunate death of four crew memebers..... The whole country needs rain I think.

I was looking forward to going for my LVL 1 Cert during this upcoming Eat Cheese Or Fly !!
well no I have more time to work on that nice finish on the SA -14 Archer Right ????

We're lucky to have not had any fires (so far, knock on wood). Local creek is dried up, everything crispy.

Officially yes, though the current weather could kill activities until winter - the prairie areas around the launch site might be too far gone from the drought to recover this season.

Thanks Eric I appreciate the leads. I'm flying low power clusters by my house just to keep from going nuts.
It is however hard to get motivated to go out when its almost 100 with high humidity.

    Dave,

I posted a question in another thread.......... But your website says all fliers must be Tripoli registered.... My NAR card does not qualify me to certify (if all goes well) with my first HPR ???

I am not sure how that works. I know that each organization recognized the others certifications, but if you read the response to your question you will have to join Tripoli to fly at AirFest or any other Kloudbusters launch. But once you join TRA then you can fly an H or I motor and get your L1 with a TAP watching and signing the paperwork. All of that can be taken care of onsite at the rocket pasture. Just ask the volunteers at registration. You can also send a PM to BBrown (Kloudbusters Prefect) or llickteig1 (Kloudbusters President) for verification and any questions you may have.

As far as I know it is on. We have plowed fields around the pasture. At Sweaty Balls they set up the pads to the west in a plowed dirt field. So no fire danger.

I'm not sure where you got that information, but there is no rescheduled date as of now - if weather conditions change, the date is a possibility, but there is no firm date yet. Keep your fingers crossed!

Yes, Tim is coming up to take advantage of us on Saturday (28th), I guess he's bringin' his grill, too. I don't see why we couldn't fly a water roc or two, I should dig mine out.

BTW I was in no way trying to belittle the drought situation , on my way home from the launch I couldnt help but see how very dire the situation appears ! If the midwest doesnt see rain soon all of the corn crop will be good for nothing but silage ! As a guy who builds grain trucks this could hit VERY close to home!! Take care people and pray for rain! Jim

Many farms in Wisco are already reporting losses to fifty percent, not good. Good thing we're not flying rockets, we're going to need that money for bread...

No problem. Just know that those dates are not solid - I don't know who put that up there (I don't facebook), but it's not true.

Maybe we should start putting silage boxes on now? The corn in this area has already tassled and is beginning to brown at the bottom!
