I would have to agree with Jim Scarpine - That is real optimistic. I am not complaining, but I have never seen a launch start before 11:00

Hello, just a quick note to introduce myself. My name is Rick. I recently got back into model rocketry after a twenty-plus year hiatus. Having picked it up again as a good way to spend some more quality time with my kids. I am hoping to make it to Freedom Launch 2012 with a couple C through E motor kits I worked on while showing my six year old the finer points of fillets. And, if I can find the time, a mid power kit I just got in.

I believe my Tripoli membership information will have arrived by the first of the month. And I intend to print out and have my Tripoli South Carolina – ICBM Membership Form and dues with me the day of the launch. Is there anything else anyone can think of that might make my first Freedom Launch go smoothly. Thanks.

Rick, look me up, I have a stash of Estes motors I'm givin away to the kiddies. All they have to do is have their own rocket and use them at the launch. I might even bring some of my Estes kits if the kiddies wanna flyem for me.

I'm still hoping to be there. However, My 86 yr old Grandmother (my last living Grand) is near passing away.
Very late stage of Alzheimers and now her kidneys have failed. Doctors say matter of hours at most a few days.
They say she is in no Pain so I'm thankful for that. God's will be done.

Hi again. A couple questions about the Freedom Launch.

    a) What type of vendors, if any, attend the launch? Hardware, recovery, reloadable motor...
    b) What reload system do most people who launch in Orangeburg use? Cesaroni, Pratt, Aerotech 'RMS or High Power' ...
    c) Should I go 1/4 inch lug, 1010 rail guide, or 1515 rail guide for the Aerotech Sumo and LOC Forte' I hope to launch?
Which one will I have the best bet finding a stable pad available to launch from at the event? "I'm leaning 1010 Guide."

    Thank much, in advance,
    Rick

Ken from Performance Hobbies will have anything you can possibly need. Tommy from Adept usually shows up too. Eric from Bad Azz is still unknown. We will have any and all rails or rods you need. Its gonna be a blast!!!

I'm a little curious if it's going to be a mud hole after Issac washes through...providing it does.

    Hi Creeps,

Ken from performance hobbies will be there. He carries all you'll need to fly.
You see all the major brands flown!
I would go with the 1010!

WOW! I just came back to post I found a thread concerning vendors attending, and boom a ton of replies after just a few minutes. I can tell this is going to be a good group to get my feet wet with for mid power flights. Level one, I've got you in my sights!

    Jon,

There is an old saying in medicine: "first take your own pulse". Take a deep breath and relax a few moments before your set up. It will go well this time. I am confident in your ability.

On another note, have you ever thought of kitting your Trous Deux? I think it would sell.

But keep in mind: UV rating of 8 (high), High temps around 90 degrees, and humidity at 78% --> sun protection and plenty of Gatorade! (and for me, some baby powder in the shorts!)

Can anybody answer this question? Since I'm going south on I-26 to get to the Days Inn, am I going to have to make that 9.5 mile U turn past the hotel? Seems no matter which road you're on, the map says you have to make that drive. I've never stayed there so I am wondering if that has changed and maybe my map isn't up to date?

If its the Days Inn off of exit 154 [U.S. 301, aka 5 Chop Rd], there shouldn't be a reason to drive 9.5 miles unless you're going into town for dinner [unless 9.5 miles was hyperbole].

OTOH, if you're staying at any of the hotels on U.S 601 [aka St Matthews Rd, exit 145], then you ARE going to be making a 9.5 mile commute to the launch site. Which is what I'll be doing.

I-26 runs east and west, as do all even numbered 2 digit Interstates. Go with what DJ said, exit 154a (the Luvs Truck Stop exit), and you are right there. Whats this U-turn you speak of? DJ, whats up, you dont like Days Inn? Great rates.

It's all settled now. The confusion was over the way the map viewer was not recognizing the driveway to the Days Inn and giving directions via northbound I-26. When Gary looked at the satellite view, it is clear how to get to the Days Inn off 301.

My wife literally forbade me from staying there, ever since we stayed there 6 or 7 years ago [also, a year before she stopped going to launches with me].

She'll see the bank statement, so there's no hiding it.
