At least they didn't show a zoomed-in, pixelated video of a speck of dust floating in the air and claim it is a ghost. :-)

The exaggeration of everything was pretty bad. But, it's probably obvious to most viewers that they over-dramatize things. I doubt a non-rocketry person would worry about, or even notice, that they launched the rocket without making sure the electronics and everything were in order.

The launch itself was spectacular. The weather looked just right. The rocket roared off the pad with a big flame. And the video of the launch - both from the ground and on-board - was well-done and nicely edited. They didn't need to add all the silly melodrama. But, I guess that's just the way that show is.

Yep, I would hate to come across as being crazy. Hmm, what was that noise.

My rockets usually fly naked. If they survive, they earn their paint.

The episode is available online now...

Looks like they used an aerotech 75 mm motor with a medusa nozzle, maybe a 54mm. I mean whomever's storage shed that was , must have left a couple K, or L motors in there too.

Yup, that's one of Mike Konshak's birds. The fin shape is the same on all his most recent glass birds. Also, that's his phone number.

He's big into NAR competition, so I'm sure he and Tim are good buddies. Haven't seen the show, but it's better publicity than outhouses!

Every now and then we get a chance to "see behind the curtain." Because we have insight into the real world of rocketry, we can figure out that much of this episode was staged for viewers' enjoyment. I am sure that is just as true for most of the things that are carefully prepared for our consumption, from politics to fancy meals to press releases to glamour shots. Fact is, most of the time we prefer our stuff gussied up so well that it can be hard to tell what's "real" at times. The best gussying is like that.
