Rail Buttons On My BD Bat

Before I go any further on this build I need you input. The BD Bat kit came with a launch lug and I want to put on rail buttons. As you can see in the pic I have the cog and rb locations marked. Where the rb is thats where my cr's are. They would be 10" apart in this location. My question is there supposed to be a rb at or just above the cg or will I be alright where I have them marked. TIA

Doesn't really matter where they are in relation to the cp/cg, just stick one in each centering ring.

The further apart your rail buttons are, the shorter the effective rail length becomes - a single rail button doesn't do anything to stabilize the rocket. So, you generally want two near the rear. For most rockets, you don't need anything else. For heavier and longer rockets, it may be a good idea to put a third rail button on/past the CG, to keep the rocket from acting as a lever and pulling the rail buttons out. This isn't all that likely, I think, and is only really an issue while the rocket is tilted pretty far from vertical unless the rocket is really heavy and has an inadequate button mounting method. Your CG is so close to your centering rings that I wouldn't worry about it. The leverage produced is minimal.

I fly a fifteen pound rocket regularly with two 10-10 buttons (about ten inches apart) off of a six foot rail, never had an issue. Actually, never had an issue with any of my birds and they all have but two 10-10 buttons. If you want to throw an extra one on there, cool- you'll just run out faster.

3 is a bad idea: more like likely to bind on a rail.

I too have been looking into rail buttons ... couple questions?

    1) Do they have to be put into the centering rings?
    2) If not how are they installed and what onse shoudl I get?

They don't HAVE to be, but the mounting needs to be reinforced if not (in cardboard tubes, anyway). Many build threads here illustrate different methods of doing so with hardware and blocks. There's no one way to do it, just make sure the way you choose is solid.
