I had three firefish in my tank and about a week ago one went missing. No show yet. My chromis, one of those guys always seems to take a trip down into my sump at least once a month like the drain pipes are some kinda water park slide. Sometimes I won't find them for days.

When I started my tank I stocked wayyyy to fast which is very bad for salt water. I lost three fish to ich. That doesn't sound bad, but that was over $150 of fish. Two mimic tangs and a flame back angel. EVERYTHING in my tank besides my chromis got ich and then marine velvet. I thought I was going to lose them all. Thank god they lived... except those three.

I've done quite a bit in the tank the last couple days so I'd thought I'd post.

First of all, a full view.

I found out all I could about Green Fanwort, the Cabomba, last night. It is growing very fast in the middle, and I don't have any room for much more to cut it off and replant. It branches out at the new top if you cut it I read, and it might make white flowers after it does reach the top. I know some people with aquariums hoping to give it away, but none are planted. I guess the excess will go in the garbage, or I read you can eat it.

    The suspected "Red" Cryptocoryne wendtii,

    are both growing new leaves.

The two C. wendtii have doubled the amount of leaves they had in five weeks.

The Cryptocoryne crispatula yunnanensis in the back is growing very well and has developed rippled leaves, the other in the front right corner is holding it's own.

The last Temple Plant's long stem rotted in the middle. I trimmed it off and replanted. It's framed by the fake rock in the picture. Not much else I can do for it, I hope it makes it.

I had some Cardamine and Cabomba float up, with no roots, and I think I figured out why. When I used my planting tool I didn't put the tip even with the bottom of the stem. When I planted, it bent the stem over sharply and it rotted. I cut off the rot and replanted. Live and learn, and I hope it works now.

Nitrates are holding steady at 20 for several days now. I read changing water can make CO2 swing wildly and trigger algae, so I've left it be since it's still pretty low. Still no algae, and snails still small.

I guess I should mention the fish. All are doing well, and at least the small ones are growing I noticed. The Harlequins are like a school of piranhas at feeding time, and the Gourami could eat all day I think. The catfish are still always busy and aren't afraid to separate now. Really, all the fish don't seem to be afraid of anything now, even when I put my arm in the tank.

Thanks for saying so. Stability is what I want, and so far so good. I don't think I should add any more fish, I hope the plants and fish grow up together and stay in harmony.

One last thought as I did it a few days ago, I rinsed out the filter cartridge by shaking it in some conditioned water after the filter started making noise. A ton of silt came out. No change in ammonia or nitrites, and the filter is quiet again.

Hoppy on TPT forum explains things better on lights. My experiences so far back up his information. No algae, every plant in the tank that has survived the ordeal of shipping and bad initial planting has now produced at least one new shoot. Except for the last Temple Plant, it is just floating around and I hope it develops some roots. There just isn't enough stem to keep it down.

Damn, my camera jammed up, I can't even turn it off. I hope it just turns itself off after a while like it usually does. Damn new fangled contraptions.
