They are a lot of fun, it's a hoot to throw a Big Bertha up on a D24. The down side is availability. The hardware is getting tough to find (the price on the site you linked to is awful steep), I paid less than twenty bucks each for mine. Loads are getting a bit scarce as well.

If you overbuild or repair a rocket to the point where a C isn't adequate it is about the only real option you have other than scrap heap.

It seems fewer and fewer vendors are stocking this motor and those who still do are selling them at premium prices. The 32 bucks that valuerockets is asking for one isn't all that bad considering. The reloads seem to be drying up among vendors as well, I would guess that they just aren't selling that many of them.

I've had one since 1994 and it is the least used motor out of the 3 hobby motors I originally bought as a kit, the 24mm probably being the most used and the 29mm a close second. It is alot of fun and I occasionally will load up the 18/20 to give a LPR a good ride.

Whether it is worth the money is a matter of personal preference. They are neat and the sound of a D21 lighting up at a LPR launch will often make people jump and ask,"what was that?"

Heck yeah! I have 3 of them! They are great little motors for those draggy/heavy rockets that only go 100 feet high or so on a D or E black powder motor...

Can you use different vendors' reloads in the same case or do you have to match the case and reloads with the same manufacturer?

Aerotech Is the manufacturer of the reloads and they were for the cases. I know of no other Manufacture of reloads for that case.

Love putting my Big Bertha up on a D13-7W, excellent flight that tended to make people say "WHAT was that?!" One of my favorite combo's, right up until the day a year ago when I forgot the black powder ejection charge cap...

I've had no problems getting 18mm reloads through Hobbylinc and Balsa Machining.

For Aerotech reloads there have been three certified case manufacturers. Aerotech, Rouse Tech, and Dr. Rocket. Dr Rocket is out of business and only made hi power cases. I haven't seen Rouse Tech 18mm cases for sale in a while. If you want the 18/20 case and reloads you should get it from Value Rockets.

Performance Hobbies used to have these at a reasonable price - you might see if Ken has anymore on the way.

I looked around on their site, and every single item I looked at said "1e+09 Units in Stock." Strange.

Probably some sort of 'coding issue' with their inventory software

1e+09 sounds suspiciously like the number 1.
