Haven't had a chance to do anymore than already posted. Trying to decide on the tail or head next. But, mostly working and going to my daughter's ballgames.
Got back to work on the Tingler today! Coming off vacation I had to play catch up a bit at work. It's time to tackle the head / nosecone area. I needed to make a few things happen here. First I needed to make the rear portion slide Over the bt/body. I did this by making a cardstock form to glue the tissue to. Second I wanted a couple of bumps behind the fangs---sorta venom glands. This turned out to be a challenge. I just could'nt find anything that looked right---until I went fishing this morning----I've been bustin up the bass with a Super Fluke the last few weeks, as I was putting one one---LIGHT BULB TURNS ON----It's true--we launch anything, I am a geek. It turned out to be the perfect shape for the job. Finally I needed the skin to be a little more leathery looking than the body. I did this by rolling up the tissue into a ball and got a lot more wrinkles in it. The down side of this is it weakens the already delicate tissue. It just makes it harder to install and it did tear in a couple of small areas but they were easily patched. I went ahead and put a dowl down the centerline where the launch rod will go through. After everything was glued and papered I covered it all with a couple of good coats of sanding sealer. That's setting up right now and shrinking nicely. After this dries I'll put a couple of coats of cut clear school glue over the assembly and then add a couple more on the spine area. It makes for a stronge ,resilient but semi-flexable surface![]()
Seeing this for real would be worth the drive up to Dallas.... Your work/mind is amazing!

I've got beer, wine and fishing poles---come on up!! Got a little more done on the nose. Had to make a small change at the rear of neck area. The paper shrank a little tight so I cut it out and added a small piece of cardstock and then recovered the area. Worked out well !! Went ahead and primed it up and then got a coat of paint on it. While all this was going on I started the underside fins ,did'nt get too far with this since we had a storm brewing up and I was out on the deck---more later![]()
WOW that does NOT even look like a rocket any more! Nice job.

So, I'm putting my day off to good use---more work on the Tingler. I decided to fill the space behind most of the body sections. This was prompted by my inabilaty to get the trailing edge to look good---it's hemp and does'nt sand, paint, or anything else well. I can still get the effect I want with paint later. I used GE bathroom/sink caulk to fill the void. It's a little thinner than other caulks and goes on really smooth. It's also paintable and flexable and I ain't gotta sand it !! I left the front 3 sections on the bottom open---sorta like gills![]()

I let all that set up a while and started the basic painting. The whole thing was sprayed with a couple light coats of almond paint. After it tacked I sprayed some yellow lightly over the bottom and hit the whole thing with a fog coat of white and let dry. Since it's supposed to look like it came out of the body I'll start with some red highlites. I used waterbased art paint for this . I thinned it down a tick and sprayed it on with a small pint sized plant sprayer ,I then came back with a paper towel and quickly wiped off the excess. This left the red in the really low areas and sorta pinked out the other surfaces. I'm going to try and use some of MA's ideas so I'll let this dry and work in some other colors later !![]()
Did a little more paint work and ca'd the tendrels / legs on . Got a couple coats of clear on . Used Rusto---I was going over Krylon so I laid a couple dry coats and let them sit for a couple hours and the laid down a couple medium coats. I'll let that sit overnight and hit it before I go to work in the A.M. Trying to get a wet look ! All up weight is 10.0 oz without chute or motor---includes shock cord. The bottom of the nose is a bit different color--I'll work on that and get it blended !

--------Just about done. I got a little more paint work done and redesigned the belly fins. The originals were just not strong enough and would'nt have made it through the first flight without failure. I made the replacements out of solid balsa and covered them with wrinkled tissue . After gluing them together I mounted the pre painted assemby to the bt. I had to cut a slot in the tissue and a couple of the hemp--bones--to mount it. I initially put the assembly in place with ca and then ran a bead of epoxy down either side. Real happy with this--nice and strong with no flex --
I dont even have words anymore! After watching what this has turned into, I cant wait to see this thing fly!

Thanks 159, That's pretty much the responce I was hoping for !! I'm gonna call this one done ! I did just a bit of detail paint but nothing really obviuos. I did decide not to do much with the fangs,I kinda like the black/ white look---nice and nasty. Laid down another coat of gloss to get that wet/dep look. Total wieght is 12.0 oz with no motor. I'm using a left over chute from one of my Interceptor builds for recovery. As a point of reference --My Mean Machine weighs in at 12.0 oz unbuilt!--Looking forward to launching this one in a couple weeks !
I've got to agree with Eagle159, this no longer even looks like a rocket, but a grotesque bug. I also look forward to some pictures or video of it flying. Great job.
It looks like something from Starship Troopers!

I think paint and I have an uneasy truce going.
The only good bug is a dead bug!
You've got to bring this thing out for the July launch in Frisco.
I'm not very smart, but I can lift heavy things...
Alfa, I just put in for that Sat. off---we'll see how that goes. In the mean time I've got permission from a landowner to fly on his land, When I know I'm going ,I'll shoot you a line and maybe meet up for the heads up-- hopefully,---- I'll bring Tiger for her first run too!
SCREAMING!
You have to watch the movie for any other spoilers!

I am not sure I woudl want to witness that carnage. I think it is going to be a head up flight.

My rockets usually fly naked. If they survive, they earn their paint.
Come fly with ROSCO or ICBM in Orangeburg SC => http://rocketrysouthcarolina.com
It's definently a heads up flight-- but honestly with the exception of the nose area ---which by the way has the potential to have some control authority---it's pretty much just an ugly rocket with all the basics---guess I'll find out--I'm shooting for a Sunday p.m. launch work permitting.Going to get the WRAITH up too if I don't get called in. !!!
You probably don't want to and I agree but one option to the nose concern is to have two...one for display and one for launching that is a little more conservative. I did that with one of my retro rockets as I was concerned about the long pointy antenna if it came in ballistic.
