    huh ??????

OK I was drawing a part in AutoCAD and drew it to full size

the full size part fits on an a 17.208" diameter airframe

the scale airframe I am using is a 6.148" diameter airframe

so to get the scale factor I divide 6.148" by 17.208" and get a result of .3572

the full size part has a front to back measurement of 4" and when I scale it to .3572 I get a front to back measurement of 1.4'

sooo I assume if I multiply the scale front to back measurement of 1.4 by .3572 I should get the original full size measurement of 4" ??

    then why am I getting 0.50008" ?

    .3572 x 1.4 = 0.50008 should the result be the original size of 4" ??

    Thanks !!

my bad I see my mistake I should be dividing 1.4 by .3572 and NOT multiplying 1.4 by .3572

what can I say it was a long weekend lol

bigger question..... why not draw the whole thing full scale... copy .... scale.. refrence dimension 17.208 new dimension 6.148....then you have the full size for future scale, and the current size...

OR, draw the thing full scale, put the factor in your dimensioning. ddtext. that way even tho it is drawn at 17.208 your dim line reads 6.148

"Dad, I am going to put a big motor in this skinny rocket... its going to disapear like a ghost!!!.....

Cheaper to find your mistake on paper than in fiberglass :-)

Having been an AutoCAD design drafter for many years, I've gotten used to drawing at full scale in model space, then creating a layout in model space for printing and plotting at the scale factor desired. I'll sometimes set up my dimensioning with the prototype dimensions and the scale dimensions as an alternate dimensional callout.
