    MadCow Skipper Motor Retention

Going to be building the MadCow Skipper kit this summer.

It will be my first kit with a boattail. After looking at the kit I am concerned about motor retention, especially since I do not want to lose my 29/40-120 casing. Anyone have any tricks up their sleve?

    Thanks

What is the size of the ring? If so, just use a bolt, blind nut, and washers.
Edit: I didnt see it was a boattail rocket. If so, check out GLR slimline tailcone retention system. A little bit pricy, but worth it.

I have a GLR slimline on my Talon 2 (boattail) and like it a lot. The slimline has a ring that slips into a groove. Some have trouble getting the ring in and out, but I have had no problem.

But it looks like you have plenty of room back there for an aeropack, which just screws on and off. I used to make my own retainers with screws and blind nuts, but as my rockets and cases got bigger and more expensive, the cost of a machined retainer became less of a factor.

If you do go with a screw, a threaded insert might be a better choice than a blind nut. You would need to drill a 1/4" hole in the rear of the boattail.

I used an Aeropack retainer on my jayhawk. I did recess it about an 1/8".

Also making this my first zipperless design using paracord.

Question: How much paracord should I use from the aft bulkhead/baffle eye bolt to the parachute and then how much from parachute to forward bulkhead eye bolt?
