[Delta-IV]

I have been busy tinkering...... and now I am close to finalizing a deal to lease a medium-end 3D printer.

I will start making ABS plastic "prints" of my Delta II/IV custom made detail parts that so far have been madefrom balsa or molded resin parts, etc.

This will also allow me to make additional and even better detailed parts than before. I do anticipate a slight increase to the kit costs, but I hope all will understand that this will translate to easier to build and better detailed models.

I will entertain making custom parts as well, if the 3D ".stl" file is provided it will be at a modest fee above part cost and a quick turn on the part. If a provided sketch needs to be converted to a 3D drawing it will have to be at a negotiated additional fee.



On the drawing board currently are:

18mm Atlas V AV551 model (New Horizons)
18mm Atlas V AV401 model (Boeing CST)

18mm and 24mm Delta IV Heavy EFT-1 model (Lockheed Martin Orion)

Sounds nice! First time I heard mention of '3-D Printer' I was like, 'Okay, so it prints out those holographic thingees?'..Then I saw one in action on a program(name escapes me - ventriloquist, making a new puppet for his show), and I was like, "Holy cow, that is COOL!"..

I hear tell they've got one now that prints METAL parts in 3D... uses a laser to heat metal particles and "weld" them in the specific locations with each successive pass...

They aren't making production parts with them RIGHT NOW-- the expense is rather prohibitive, so they're using them for rapid prototyping and such to develop the final parts which are then cast or machined in more "standard" industry processes, BUT producing parts affordably and quickly is the next big goal...

Yes, the technology is improving real fast, buy the time I pay off the printer I am buying, I'll probably be able to buy 4 with even better performance for the same $$$.
