    Airfest 18, Argonia Aug 31-Sept 3, 2012

    Folks,

Mark it on your calendar, Airfest 18 will be held on the rocket pasture in Argonia over the Labor Day weekend, August 31st thru September 3, 2012.

This years Airfest is shaping up to be BIG! as in BIG rockets flying under a BIG waiver. While it's a bit too early to talk about the featured flights, this years "theme" will be really big scale rockets.

Our standing waiver for the event will be 50,000'AGL all four days and all days will be run under the Tripoli Research rules with a separate youth range for kids under the age of 18.

We will be updating the Airfest page on our club's website (www.kloudbusters.org) soon and we will be making announcements as the time gets closer. I'm certain you will want to be here!

I don't know if I would really want to go to airfest. I don't think I would have much fun, but my wife has threatened me life and limb if I don't take her. I guess she has twisted my arm.

    John,

I'm going to predict that this Airfest will have Carmen squealing like a little girl! Sheri will flat pass out! Expect a BIG announcement as to a couple of featured flights in the next 30 days or so. They alone will be worth the drive and then some!

Does one of the launches have something to do with a southern Pollock that builds motors?

Any updates? The AIRfest link still goes to the 2010 edition of the event.

The new website is being worked on.

So I let a bit more information out!

As you have seen in an earlier post, both Steve Eves and Vern Hoag are bringing their 1:9 scale Saturn 1B's to Argonia for Airfest 18! These are the two rockets that flew in Maryland in 2009. Vern's will be powered by four CTI N-5800's! Steve's two stage will be flown by a central P-7000 surrounded by four Loki N3800's staging to a single O-5000. Either of these rockets would be spectacular in their own right but having both fly again at a launch is truly amazing!

But that's not all of the large scale NASA rockets to be flown at the launch. Our "Brothers from a different mother" from Nebraska have decided to bring the 22' tall Mercury Redstone out of retirement and fly it again at Argonia. It will be boosted on a PatG P motor.

There is at least one more Class 3 project planning on attending. If all goes to plan, it will be spectacular!

Tell your boss that Aug. 30th thru Sept. 3rd you are going to be in SE Kansas. He will understand!

50,000'AGL Waiver, 64 pads, miles and miles of recovery area (and a few token trees), is a launch you will not want to miss!

I might have to make room in my schedule for this. What am I saying. I'll be there. Looking forward to seeing all our rocket friends from across the US and possibly the world.

I have one rocket flight planned and it involves several of my fellow KLOUDBuster's and a whole lot of trash talking!!! Seems like it is still forever away but, it will be here before we know it.

    G, I wonder what you're gonna fly?

The only question is....which will be more full of it? The motor, or Smemo?

As always, it's going to be a great event!

    To echo Bob's announcement..................

This year’s AIRFest-18 is going to the first of a kind mega-event. The KLOUDBusters in association with ROCKETS Magazine are going to make this one of the prime launches of the 2012 Season. The legendary Rocket Pasture will be site of the largest assembly of Scale Rockets in the History of High Power. Currently, the three center piece projects will be Vern Hoag’s Four N-5800 powered Saturn 1B, Kevin Trojanowski’s P-Motor powered, (towerless), Mercury Redstone and Steve Eves Saturn 1B boosting on a Central P-7000 and four N-3800’s, staging to a 6” diameter O-Motor. Will you add your project to this list?

Scale models of all shapes, sizes and power ranges are welcome and encouraged. Do you have a large earth shaking, bone rattling project but can’t make it out to The Black Rock Desert to launch? Bring it to AIRFest-18 where a scale model of an original design is still considered a scale model and welcome with open arms. Kansas has a 50,000’ waiver and can accommodate the biggest bird you can set on a pad.

Remember, this is Tripoli Research Launch and the Tripoli Research Rules will be in effect. If your project is a Class Three, this is the time to start thinking about the paper work and getting assistance from the TRA Class Three Committee.

    http://tripoli.org/Launches/FAAClass...6/Default.aspx

ROCKETS Magazine will be doing a feature article and Video on this event. Check out the progress of Vern and Steve’s rockets at:

    http://www.rocketsmagazine.com/saturn-1b-projects-2012/

AIRFest-18 will redefine the word BIG when it comes to rockets and rocket launches. Make your plans now and get those “scale projects” ready to launch from one of the best venues in the country and witness rocketry’s biggest Movers and Shakers.

I'm just the chief instigator -- there's a team behind it. Originally built by me, Matt Jones, Greg Rothman, Kevin Rich, Nate Warner and Denis Gilbert. We're rebuilding the lower section, and adding John McAtee, Rick Bosworth, Mark Smith and Doug Buhrman to the team. I think I got everyone....

You'll recall that I was 100% behind you flying it the way you wanted it.

BTW, this time around, we're going to try flying a tower. That means a complete rebuild of the tower, as well as modifications to the capsule.

I think “Try”, “Think” and “Hope” are the most frequently used words in the rocketeer’s vernacular….

You must have a secret up your sleeve to be throwing around a word like “Fly” so confidently.....

It is -- 1/2/3 in a single day, or single launch, is quite an undertaking.

If you look at projects he has already posted about, though, I'd say he's one of those rare ones that truly is ready for it.
