The Ninja was the bird that brought me back to the friendly skies back in 1994. Picked up for less than a buck in a hobby shop closing in Arlington, Texas, it flew four times before we left for home, only to be crushed by falling luggage on the trip.

I eventually realized the significance of the Ninja, and picked up a second one in 2002. This one got the full treatment, paint AND decal, but basswood for fins. The fiber ones were too delicate.

The 2011 version is an LOC Lil Nuke that I'd been given as a gift. Since I already had a stock Nuke, this one became the Hillbilly Ninja. It's since been painted, but my decal didn't turn out. I'll need to see about that before the first flight.

Finally got a decent looking decal on the LOC Lil Ninja, then flew it the next day on an F20-7. The decal came out a lot better than I expected, given the problems I had with the previous one.

Here's my newly finished BT70-sized upscale of the original-issue Ninja. Its 31.75" long, uses a 29mm mount and is a little less than 10 oz. Decals were done by Mark @ Stickershock. I'm undecided whether I should refer to it as a "Super Ninja", or perhaps a "Sumo Ninja"...

That BT-70 upscale is way cool. Major props for using the original all-black color design too. Wish I still had my original.

Thanks. I wish I still had my original too - which was the first-issue all black version (that's why I had Mark make this style decal). I'm pretty sure it wasn't lost in action, but I have not been able to locate in boxes of old rocket stuff. I'm still debating if this thing is light enough to get away with a large streamer on (like the original) or if I should just use a chute. The streamer will be much easier to track & locate though...

My Tomahawk also weighs just under 10 ounces and comes down pretty quick with an 18" nylon chute. I guess you could add a streamer as well for tracking.

An 18" chute seems like a nice size for this, based on Rocksim's forecast of the descent rate. But I'll have to bring the rocket in with me tomorrow to get an actual weight for it. I'm sure that the sim is off one way or another with regards to that, they always are...

OK, it turns out to be 8.3 oz without a recovery device, which is a lot closer to the Rocsim guess than I'd have thought.

Flown yesterday!

I flew it on a D12-3, so the altitude was fairly low, but the wind was gusty. I think that the 6x60" streamer has insufficient drag, since both it and the rocket body were pulling back upward from the nose cone. The streamer is, at least, no more draggy than the rocket body is.

I found my (and fixed) my original 0882 Ninja over the weekend! The fins were off, but I'd managed to keep it all together, so I reattached the fins and CA'd the fiber edges.

Nice. I have some BT-20 and a nose cone to make a clone with. I can't seems to find decals for the original all-black scheme though.

I had Stickershock make the decals for my upscale; perhaps Mark can down size them enough to use on a clone...

Thanks! I'll get a clone going some time, until then I have a set of vinyl from Stickershock, sized for a BT-60 build (for 24mm power). Should go very Ninja-like on an F44-8.

I never got around to painting my BAR Ninja back in 1994, so I found another one and finally got around to it.
