    Shroud Line Material/Attachment

For my latest project I have made an eight foot diameter hemispherical chute. From the research I have done it seems that the rule of thumb is to have the shroud lines about 1.5x the diameter of the chute. My question is what kind of material do people use for the shroud lines? I have seen braided nylon used but was wondering if there was anything else out there. Also, to anyone who has made their own chute, how do you attach your shroud lines to the parachute securely so that there will not be any issues with the deployment forces? I have attached a picture of the chute below (with little brother in the background for size comparison).

I use 150 lb dacron lines on the chutes I make that I bought here. I got 3000 ft for $15, now it's up to $28. You can make a lot of chutes with that much line.

I just zig zag stitch it to the chute. The first pass the zig zag goes from the center of the line to the chute, on the second pass, it goes from the center to the chute on the other side of the line. I've never had one tear loose yet.

On an 8 ft chute, you might want to get the 300 lb parachute cord instead of the dacron.

A couple of folks around here are selling thin kevlar at pretty low prices. Mayhaps kevlar lines would be cool?

50 lb. Nylon for me. Thin, strong, light. Usually run a minimum 6 lines, sometimes 8 on the bigger 'chutes.
I'm still in midpower Rockets, so weight is still a sticky issue.
Plays with wood, cardboard, and carpenters glue at home.

L1 will have to wait until 2013. Oh well.......patience is a lost virtue any-ways...

My rockets usually fly naked. If they survive, they earn their paint.

I went with the 550 cord. Got a great deal on a 500' roll.

I was thinking about using nylon that you get as backing on fly fishing reels or even the braid that sea fishing anglers use . Is this ok to ??
