Got a box the other day. It had my Ebay wins in it.
Decided to build the Yellow Jacket.
Also,I included some pics of what I feel my be a helpful hint to some.
This is what I use for glue bottles.
These are empty bottles of REAGENT that I use at work to test water.
I cut the dropper top off and insert a Testers glue tip in it.
I imagine that you could use a regular screw top bottle and drill a hole in it and insert the Testers glue tip in it.
I thought I could use them just the way they were, but with the dropper top,the hole was to small for the glue to come out.
Anywhoo- they work real good for me. No mesh and I can apply just the rite amount and control it easier.
Heres some pics.

Let it dry for awhile in front of heater in other room and then Im putting the primer to it.
And I just might put the pigment to it later this evening out on the sunporch.
Dont need to spend a month building a simple 3fin rocket.
GET-R-DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking good. I never would have thought to use the lines on the cutting board for fin alignment, but when it comes down tio it,what are they for but to set angles. I will have to try it out on the next build.

Got some more done.
Geeze,I havent been in this kind of a building mood for awhile.
Anywhoo- thats about it for today.
Ill let the body dry overnight.
Tomorrow when I get home from work,Ill sand it and check for Boo Boos.
Being Im painting it forgiving Yellow ,I aint gonna be to fussy with it.
It will look good way up high in the sky.
Some my say,"Hey,if your painting it Yellow, you should be using white primer".
Well, I got no white primer, the cans in the picture are empty.
PLUS, I used gray primer under the yellow on my Big Daddy and that came out pretty darn good.
NOW,its time to put on the feed bag.
Delmonico and Sirloin Steak, mashed potatoes, brocoli, garden salad, cellery,Big Kalamanta smoked olives, green olives stuffed with garlic and maybe some baked beans.
SEE YA

Thanks The grid works for me. And when I have a rocket with the fins below the aft end, Ill thro a coupler in it to raise it up.
But,I dont always use the grid.
I have some home made alignment thingies I use here and there.
I like to mix it up.
Guess it just depends on the build.

Well, I guess, bottom line...I screwed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had it going on..then I laid it on heavy, too heavy I guess.
Got a couple runs and then these blisters showed up???????
To bad too, for a quicky prep job,it was looking pretty smooth.
So, I guess Ill have to let it dry for a year  and sand down the bad spots and shoot it again.
I used Krylon Sun Yellow over the GRAY primer.

Get-r-done indeed!

Gotta love the classics. I had one back in the day, painted it green and black. It's nothing fancy, just a good ol straight flyer.

Putting it on too thick is a common occurrence around here. I just shrug my shoulders and call it a day. Can't sweat the small stuff.

Good Job man!

Did you put any clear coat on the rocket or was it simply a gloss paint?
Thanks,
Machet

No clear.Straight out of the rattle can. Krylon Sun Yellow Gloss.
The picture was taken 2 1/2, to 3 hours after I had painted it today.
So, I believe, what I see is what Im going to get.
Myself, I like to lay it on HEAVY, just to the point of running.
I also like to let it set in a cool(er) place at first, gives the paint time to lay down.
Seems to work for me......sometimes....:cyclops:
OH-YA, Im not going to paint the top part of the BT Black like the cover card.
Im going with the black NC and the decals and call it good.

Well, I wasnt going to paint top of body Black, but I change my mind as much as the weather changes.

Nice Build ! :D

That Krylon Sun Yellow looks nice and bright. I'm always looking for a good bright yellow - I'll have to check that one out next time I go shopping.

- I'm with you on the smaller bottle for glue. I use something similar. That full size bottle of Titebond works great for building furniture... but smaller works better for mod-rocs.

I have always LOVED the YellowJacket! They fly very well (when modified) on Estes "D" motors.

The last one I had fell into a corn field - a lot of black dirt and yellow corn stalks - never found it :(
