    Retired or unemployed

Just wondering how many here are retired or unemployed and have all kinds of time to build rockets.
Im employed and sometimes I just dont have the get up and go to work on rockets after work.
Tonight I was going to work on painting 1 fin on the Quest Magnum Sport Loader and maybe play around with one of the 4 others I have started.
    NOPE!
I had supper,Sandy and I talked some, took dog out, and now its 8pm and Im pretty much done for the night.

    Does this happen to others?
Ya know, have it in your head to work on a rocket after work and then it just doesnt happen ????????????
Anywhoo- why not have a poll.

When I wasn't working I had all kinds of time and no money. Now that I am working I have all kinds of money and no time...go figure. As I write this I am working on my Big Daddy. Made a lot of head way yesterday and it's done. I putting epoxy fillet around the aft center ring and next I will try my hand at making epoxy fillets. So I try to balance my time between work, girlfriend, other responsibilities and rockets. Now that there is just a little more light when I get off work I might be able to squeeze in primering the rocket when it's ready. I usually work on my hobby in the evening from about 5-9 or thereabouts...just depends how I feel and other times I'm like and not wanting to do anything but veg out...keep it balanced and don't make it feel like work...the moment it does then its no fun.

Still working. Have a daughter I hope to get into college (currently she wants to be a vet) and will be right at 65 or so when she finishes. Get up at 3:45AM and get home at 5PM or so and don't feel like doing much of anything most of the time.

But I guess it beats being out of work.

I go to school every stinking day! That is enough work right there! Being 15, I just passed the drug and alcohol test to get my permit to drive.

I work at home so I can work on rockets when I have nothing on the plate. Today I got to start prepping the fin / fairing assembly for the Saturn for the casting mold. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the 1st half of the mold poured.

I'm still 3 years from retirement and have a job (construction) but work is slow so I have lots of time on my hands. I am also one of them dang survivalist/preppers you have been hearing about. But I dont need to make anymore danged candles and it aint canning season so I work on my rockets. Gotta have something in-expensive to do. BTW, I picked up an Estes Express kit today at a local hardware store to keep me busy for a couple of days..

But like Scotty, when I'm working I dont have the evening time to do much of anything! I need my sleep!

You got that rite when you say keep it balanced. Thats why Im not working on the Magnum tonight.
If I did, it would have been "I NEED to get this done" instead of "I WANT to get this done"
I really ,really have had to be in the mood lately to do any work on my rockets.
I was bummed again this weekend.
    Another cold and WINDY weekend.
I stopped at the LHS this past week and picked up 4 packs of motors hoping I might get to launch some on the weekend.

I have a full time job that keeps me busy, but I would gladly be building more and flying more if I: Owned a car and had money. The only limitation to my rocketry activities is a limited budget. I would gladly fly level 3 rockets and beyond, some day... It only takes a week to build most HPR rockets... so that is 52 rockets per year if the money was there.

Retired once after 20 years in the Air Force. Now working on my second life :P

Rockets come after work, wife and daughter. Those I fly with know me as the one of the slowest builders around.

Checked Unemployed and have all the time I want to build - which while it is technically true isn't quite exactly what it sounds like: I'm unemployed because my health crashed bad and that cuts in to the ability to build - rockets and trains both.

Aw dood. You got that right. I might not be all arms up about building right now but the new angle I'm working with is inspiring. I think a lot of us get the winter blues and can't focus on rocketry. I get em too. But this is the best time of the year to build!. When we're stuck inside! Come spring time, we'll be ready to paint what we built and fly em....if we can.

Well, I checked the 'unemployed but busy" one...

I lost my off-farm bus driving job this time last year. Been doing the cattle/ranching/helping my folks stuff since then, and taking care of the house in betwixt and between.

Enough to keep me busy, but not much money in it. At least I have my sanity (for now). LOL

That "real life" stuff gets in the way sometimes... OL JR

^ Very similar circumstances as Ol JR here. Have been busy the last 12 years doing historic restoration work due to lack of ANY Industrial Electrical work. Manufactures/companies hiring their family and friends. There are lay-offs and hiring freezes for years. Hundreds of Electricians losing their jobs.
People leaving North Florida for greener pastures every day.
Now the last few years people are tightening their belts by letting their properties fall into decay and neglect. I have work for several weeks (days?) then spend gas and time trying to kick up work with promises, lip service and procrastination for weeks on end.
When is this crap gonna get better???

I'm currently slowly finishing a pre level 3 rocket (98mm up to baby M) to keep my sanity and keep busy. Everyone thinks I have the time to work for free.

sorry for the pity party...But that made me feel good typing it.

    Retired Navy (20yrs, 5days).
Now I'm a Field Technician. Away on projects for extended periods living in hotels. Between projects, I am home. Lots of time, but limited dollars. Lately, more time between than I can afford.
If I drive, I may take an LPR build or 2 with me. If I fly, well, somehow I don't think rockets on a plane would go over well in today's world.

For those who are unemployed, if you can swing a welding class at the local community college, and don't mind living on the road, there is still money to be had in the trades (Millwright, pipefitter, iron worker, welder, etc). It isn't glamorous, you get dirty and are away from home, but it is a paycheck. Look into it.

T-Rex, I did auto body repair for 15 years, and construction (commercial) for 17 years. My age and wore out body won't compete no more in that industry. In fact my last 4 years of construction was in the office. I was gunna quit because my body wouldn't take another Michigan winter, so the put me in the office until the bottom fell out. Last I talked to the company they were lean and mean with about 20% of what they had 4 years ago in work force. Including Office.
And I did the Out of Town thing for years, as a single chap I loved it! Married w/ children, gotta be home evenings. Not only do they derserve it, I've worked it and earned it and deserve it too, to be home evenings.
But for those young bucks out there, you get to see some mighty awesome things to watch buildings go up, and strangers in a small town go good if you have the right attitude, if ya know what I mean.

I'm employed and I work a lot of hours, but I haven't had a paycheck in 12 months, so I don't fit any of the options in your poll. I don't have the time or the money to build rockets. I had a few kits and supplies left from 10 years ago when I was last doing rockets so I'm spending what little time I have working on them.

Retired but I obviously have nowhere near as much time to build rockets as qquake2k who still works for a living.

My problem is that I have non-rocketry interests who make extensive demands on my time. Yes, I'm referring to Mrs. OD.

Her bionic knee is doing pretty well and has now become her "good" knee. Hopefully, no issues will arise down the line, knock on titanium. Thanks for asking.

She keeps me busy because she now seems to have no limits on her ability to shop and is making up for lost time. LOL!
