Anybody want to see pics/specs for my fin jig?

I saw a kind of a cool fin jig online so I thought I'd design one like it.

I designed this thing in Google Sketchup and have the design files fully dimensioned, if you want it. I'm making this bad boy from medium-density fiberboard. A carpenter-friend of mine will be helping me with accurate cuts.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Awesome bro! Sometimes making the tools is actually more fun than building the rockets. Keep us posted.

It appears as if it will handle everything down to an 18mm tube, all the way up to 4". The fin supports are 600mm long, so even a rocket with really long fins or strakes can be supported.

    Here're another couple of views.

    I love this jig

I have one of these and love the thing. I wish it took bigger rockets up to a 4 inch.

My rockets usually fly naked. If they survive, they earn their paint.

I'm usually left holding the bag. If I got a Right bag, maybe it would be better.
Why is it a launch lug? They are usually too small to carry your rocket to the pad with.
Why do I need an altimeter that talks back to me? I can get that at home.

Those are pretty sweet. I never had much success making an all purpose fin jig.

I've done TTW fins to the motor mount. Used the fin slots to hold the fin upright while glueing to the motor mount tube. Then glue the motor mount / fin can in all at once.

This requires extending the slots all the way to the bottom end of the body tube.

Surface mounts were just a rough guess / balancing act.
