    Rutroh!

Seriously. Don't try this at home ... or ... several hundred feet from a home.

I'm surprised that something like this has taken so long to happen. Their scientific method is a bit weak.

I enjoy watching show and I think they have some cool stuff on there, but this is just proof of what can happen when an experiment has gone wrong.

    My favorite quote...........

"It flew straight though the front door of a home on Cassata Place, and bounced around like a pinball, flying up to the second floor before blasting through a back bedroom wall.
The wayward cannonball then blasted across a busy road and through a second home some 50 yards away, demolishing roof tiles.

    The homeowner’s mother was frightened"

In past videos it looked like that bomb range was way out in the middle of nowhere. I'm surprised there were any homes that close to a bomb range.

Guess that's the difference between detonating explosives in place and firing a cannon at something.

My guess is that the cannon passed right through the backstop/berm/concrete wall and then out "into the wild".

Fortunately, the errant projectile caused only property damage in the nearby town.

No report yet on the type of cannon employed or the type of projectile (cannon ball or artillery shell).

This ^^^^^^ basically sums it up. The best part is when the newscaster says "Alan, that is the craziest thing I've ever heard" and the reporter totally agrees

At least nobody got hurt or killed, and the damage is repairable and relatively minor compared to what COULD have happened. It would scare the pee right out of me, and I would be pee-d right off at the hosts and the show, but in the end.......

the force must have been increadible,

through a cinderblock wall, off a hill, fly 700yards - hit the sidewalk - through a door - up some stairs - out a wall - bounce off a road -on top of a house, break some roof tiles and then go through a car window... jeez

One of the reports I read was that it was the second team (Tory, Grant and Keri) doing the experiment. One story I read quoted the team's firearms expert, JD Nelson. And the cannon ball fired was a 6" diameter ball, probably cast iron (last is my supposition).

You never know with these guys. It could've been a ball of elephant dung.

I was pretty surprised the bomb rang was so close to a suburban neighborhood.

I guess the cannonball missed their barrels and went straight to the berm, which acted as a ramp and sent the ball into the wild.
Where are we going and why are we in this handbasket?

My bet is it will be put on a long, long hold. Like forever. Whoever was insuring them before is gonna deliver a cannonball right to their corporate wallet.

They're gonna have to fight off a few million bucks worth of lawsuits, which they'll lose.

This stuff tends to happen when you don't know what the fudge you're doing.

Now you need Michale Jordan and Larry Bird each to be paired with Adam and Jaime so they can recreate the Mc Donald's commercial where they try for some trick shots miles away... but with bowling balls.

Do they have a safety director?

If so, were they awake? Was the producer listening to safety recommendations?

This reminds me of the confederate rocket episode. They lit that paraffin wax motor inside of the studio. Brilliant. Let's lite an L in here. That's an awesome idea. Almost burned the building down.

such a shame they might show it on an episode as like, "we had a close call, here's how we're stepping up safety." well they should, because i'd love to see their view of that cannonball just going lol

and Dallen, i can tell you from second hand experience, no they don't have good watchful producers, and no they don't really care about what "Must" happen. Like here's a good one, what happens when you put an M650 in the very back of a "fairly light" torpedo in the water? That's right, it'll go up. Turns out even when told over and over, they wouldn't add nose weight to the front of the torpedos to make them stay down, not because of any scientific reasoning, just because...

Remember the "convertible by tractor trailer" test? when the car continued on and flew over a berm, launched into the air and left the test area. You can only be lucky for so long,,

Kind of reminds me of a story from here a few years ago:

Oops! Artillery Overshoot Lands in Neighborhood
PLEASANT GROVE, Utah - A 20-pound artillery shell loaded with too much gunpowder overshot its Provo Canyon avalanche target Wednesday by about three miles, exploding in the back yard of a couple and piercing three homes with shrapnel.

    Remarkably, no one was injured.

Now the Utah Department of Transportation is scrambling to understand what went wrong and make sure it never happens again.

"We took full responsibility for this incident and we're extremely grateful no one was hurt," said Carlos Braceras, deputy director of the department.

The 105 mm shell was fired from a howitzer artillery cannon leased from the U.S. military. The military sends the shells pre-loaded with seven packages of gunpowder. The operators were supposed to remove two. Instead, it was fired fully loaded, and rocketed into the residential neighborhood.

They were at a police range, which means that they were under the supervision of law enforcement. That alone will make this interesting.

My guess? No more filming at that range -- they'll have to go farther out of town, now.

Keep in mind, as well, that the media has provided minimal information, and there have already been some contradictions reported. What, exactly, happened, and how, haven't been fully reported. And until they're sure there won't be litigation, you can bet it never will be.

Until full information is available, it's all speculation.

    Ou of town

Further out of town is a good guess. I have looked at that set on TV before and I never saw any houses. I am guessing that they never showed that angle.
