    Raytheon SM-3 (RIM-161)

Does anybody have info on the Raytheon Standard Missile 3 (Block 1A)?

I've found some info on Designation-Systems.net and stage diameters on another Defense site whose URL I can't recall right now - but they don't seem to correspond to the pic above (Stage 3 is smaller than shown).

    Any help would be appreciated.
My bird will be about a 1/8 scale, using a BT-60 as the main tube. About 30" long.

This is one I'm working up to building as well. All I can suggest is to do a google search, and click on "images".

Are you going to make this single stage or two? I'm trying to make a booster stage that is a "clamshell" design, held together by the upper stage. When the upper stage ignites and seperates, the halves of the shell of the booster are free to come apart and release the parachute. Of course, I can design anything on paper...

That booster is going to be about 7" long. Do you plan on butting the engines or gapping them? I've never tried gapping and don't know what kind of gap is feasible. A pen-spring based clamshell would be cool.

My design is a little shorter, but I think that I'll still have a small gap between stages. I was thinking of a set of mousetrap-style springs, but coil springs would work, too.
