    Looking really nice.

I've had the same weight issue with my last couple of builds where I was attempting to give them a really nice finish. Maybe I'll go back to making them look decent instead of trying to make them look really good.

Deft. Got it at Lowe's. They don't have it at Home Depot. I've used it on plywood before, and it seemed to work pretty good. But plywood has a much tighter grain than balsa, so I'm curious to see how it looks after I put on the primer.

Well, with my track record with paint, looking decent would be a major victory for me.

there's a lot of truth to that statement. Since I got back into building rockets I hardly ever go out. Between work and my girlfriend and building rockets my time is pretty limited...I love scratch building too because there's no directions and you have a pretty good understanding how it's going to look before you are done...also if you need to modify something along the way you can.

I get great satisfaction from scratch building. I really enjoy seeing my own designs take to the air.

I built a 4 inch diameter Skeeter quite a few years ago and flew it on I motors. Skeeter drag race with Rich Pitzeruse at NYPOWER back in 1998(?). I painted it all black and called it MALARIA.

I sprayed a couple coats of primer on it. Looks better already. The fins turned out pretty good. They could have been a little smoother, but they're good enough for me. The sanding sealer did a decent job.

I sprayed on a coat of gloss white. It's hard to see in this photo, but I got those tiny air bubbles again. I don't get it. I never had this problem before, until my last two rockets. I've sprayed gloss on primer on many rockets within a few minutes, and didn't have any problems. Oh well, I'll have to wait a few days, sand it, and reshoot it. I hate paint.

No problems with the white today, thank goodness. I got the nose cone in the mail, so after sanding and washing it, I painted it red. It sure looks better with some paint on it. I'll wait until Saturday before I mask and shoot the next color.

Had the same thing happen to me with my T-WOLF build. Used Deft spray sanding sealer--worked great--later decided to do a modification and clipped the tailfins off and replaced them- How much they weighed really set me back on my heels. On top of that the wood felt----plastisized---not ridged or brittle but plyable--strange-- now I go straight to autobody primer/filler and sand my brains out--more work but a bit lighter

I need to put a half ounce of weight in the nose cone. I was going to use split shot and casting resin, but since it's only half an ounce, I decided to use epoxy putty. I cut a hole in the base with a hole saw for access. Since I can't get in there to rough the surface up without removing the entire base, which I don't want to do, I poured some acetone in it and swirled it around. I'm hoping that will clean and soften the plastic enough for the putty to adhere well.

The nose cone fits incredibly tight in the body tube. I tried hand sanding the nose cone shoulder and inside the body tube, but it didn't help much. I'm going to have to sand the shoulder very carefully with the belt sander. I also flooded the inside of the body tube with CA so I can sand and polish it.

When I did that with my E-Pod nosecone (PNC-60), I gouged the inside of it with a rat tail file before adding the split shot and epoxy. There were all sorts of plastic strings still attached to the interior which I figure helped with the adhesion.

No failures thus far and the E-Pod boosts on E30's.

I cut and weighed the epoxy putty, then mixed it thoroughly. I put it through the hole in the nose cone and packed it down with a dowel. I think it'll work fine.

I did a lot of hand sanding on the nose cone shoulder and inside the body tube. Got it pretty smooth. My patented redneck nose cone ejection test was successful.

I decided to paint Blood Sucker red and yellow. I painted on the yellow today, and in a couple days I'll mask it and paint the fins red. The nose cone had a bad spot in the paint, so I sanded it and repainted it.

I masked the Sucker and painted the fins red. Turned out pretty good. While my patience is getting better, I should have waited another day. The tape pulled off one tiny chip. It's no big deal, but it could have been a lot worse. Lesson learned.

Now I get to try my newly acquired modicum of patience with water slide decals. I just practiced with one, and it went on perfectly. Probably the first water slide decal I've applied in 25 years. The main decal for Blood Sucker is a lot bigger, though, so we'll see how that goes.

The decal went on pretty easily. Well, the second one did, anyway. I tore the first one. It was difficult to position it being as long as it is. But I finally got it. I used decal setting solution, but I don't know if it helped or not. It's far from perfect, but I think it looks pretty good. I'm well pleased. Tomorrow, after it's had time to completely dry out, I'll spray it with clear coat.

Looks like you did a pretty job with the decals. I'm not particularly fond of doing large water slides but I've got a few waiting to be applied.

BTW, do I spy with my little eye a "Tank Girl" decal on the uncut sheet in the first snapshot?
