    Maxi Mosquito

I've been surfing the web and these forums for many days and keep hearing good things about the Mega Mosquito, which I plan to get in a few months. Meanwhile, I just can't get enough Mosquito. I, myself, actually have two average day Mosquitoes (clones) neither which have seen themselves in the air. Well, one did actually soar via a $3 air pump from 5 Below, but that's another story. But anyway, I realize that I have a piece of BT-60 and a Bertha style NC-60, so the gears in my head start turning. Before I know it, I have this crazy idea... A big Mosquito that's also a small Mega Mosquito! I call it the Maxi Mosquito (in homage to the Maxi Streak) or the Atomic Mosquito. It measures around 11.5 inches. It'll take flight on A8-3 as soon as its finished. Also, does anybody have any suggestions on the paint scheme and decals...

'Bout has to be the same yellow/black as most all mosquito's don't it? That's what I'd do.

    Got pics yet?

Sounds like fun! As for paint, that's a tough one. I've seen so many Mosquito clones and Mozzies in all different paint schemes. Maybe your school colors, or the colors of your favorite sports team. The sky's the limit!

I think paint and I have an uneasy truce going.

I have a Maxi Streak I build many moons ago. I don't think I ever flew it.

A BT60 sized Mosquito flies quite well on 18mm motors. I built one a couple of years ago when I was going through a Goonie phase.

    Unhappy

Yeah, I'd heard that... Well, mine does have an 18mm motor mount. For those who may be wondering what the paint job will be... I've decided on yellow with black stripes. Unfortunately, the rain is making painting difficult...

P.S. I'm also currently working on a Goblin, with yours truly, an 24mm motor mount.

    Thumbs up

    Dammit, another one to build!!!

Was looking for a use for the last bit of BT-60 from the Patriot. Got a round nose cone in the assortment package, just gotta build a motor mount and fins. Thinking the fins will be the tough part to make look right.

Looks like when I get to go launch, I will be busy with a trunk full of rockets.

    See ya,

Thumbs up fin and tube size

I took the scrap from the mega mosquito center fin layer and trimmed it so it would fit in my scanner/copier.

Figured out how to reduce the size and think that 60% is pretty darn close. Original Mega Mosquito fin is 6 mm thick, 4 mm = 5/32 balsa

Mega Mosquito body tube length is 242 mm, 60% is tick over 145 mm. Only had to trim 10 mm from the tube section.

Waiting for primer to dry on other projects and had to get started on the 'maxi mosquito'.

    Later,

The first thing I started was probably the hardest... The fins. I originally tried to mathematically upscale the fins from my Mosquito, but when I looked at the accurate results, I decided that they were just ludicrous. For the sake of looks and maybe balance, I made the fins a tad smaller. The Maxi Mosquito still is a more on target upscale of the Mosquito than the Mega Mosquito. I myself don't actually own the Mega Mosquito, but from pictures, I can tell that the body tube is NOT to scale. I don't think the Mozzie is an upscale either, for the same reasons as the Mega Mosquito. I'm sure though, that out there somewhere there's an accurate upscale of the Mosquito. Anyway, thanks for looking at this rocket idea. The Maxi Mosquito is currently undergoing the paint process, I will post photos soon...

I have a BT-60 Mosquito in my inventory. I painted it fluorescent orange and black. My favorite motor for it is the B6-4 but it flies great on C6s.

I also had a BT-80 Mosquito that I loved to fly on E11s. Unfortunately that rocket wore out and I have not built another.

I have built and flown numerous BT-2+ Mosquitos for MMX motors. Most of them had one flight on which they disappeared.

The Mosquito is a design that just screams rescale me.
