My Mongoose in 2 stage configuration with dual recovery deployment system. I used a C6-0 for booster and a C6-0 that I plugged.

The flight went great with nice booster separation. At 1080 feet break away deployment occurred. At 200 feet the second ejection occurred with parachute recovery. The crowd loved it and I was very relieved that everything went according to plan :)

Here I am prepping the Mongoose:

I have very limited possibilities with editing ATM so here is raw footage from my camera pointing to the launch pad. You can here at the end how the crowd loved it:

Here is the readout from my altimeter:

I didn't want to risk 3 stages because the wind picked up in the late afternoon.

I built a Mongoose specifically to be flown at NARAM-52.

The kit was built stock. It was the propulsion that was special. :D

I received approval under the NAR Old Motor Test Program to fly some long out of production rocket motors.

One was a Cox D8-0 booster.

The D8-0 went in the first stage, an Estes B6-6 went in the upper stage. I don't think I would have recovered it with a C6-7 in the upper stage. ;)

Mfg. Description: The Estes Mongoose is the perfect first time building and flying experience for a newbie who wants to try their hand at flying a two stage rocket.

A two stage rocket has two sections of the rocket with the engines stacked or staged one on top of the other. The lower or first stage contains a booster engine that kicks the rocket off the launch pad, and the upper or second stage has a standard engine inserted into it for extreme flight altitude.

Recovery is usually by parachute or streamer. The action is always hot when flying a staged rocket! The Mongoose can be flown as a single stage rocket or add a booster engine and watch this beast soar to astonishing heights of over 1,800 feet.

Standing over 26 inches tall, this highflying rocket will descend back to earth on a colorful preassembled parachute. (Estes 2012 Web Ad)

Today I finished the original Estes Mongoose that was sold between 1994 - 2005 in yellow / pink.

It was built for display only but is flight ready.

Here's an accurate OpenRocket file for the early version (1990s-2000s) of the Estes Mongoose. All dimensions have been verified with calipers from an actual specimen. Decal graphics were recreated from a photo by Camille Foss. Colors are best guess. Any feedback or corrections are welcome.
